I planned to apply to an EMBA program when I was in US two years ago. However, I eventually I dropped such plan and now, as you may be aware, I am pursuing a full-time MBA.

Anyways, I am not sure whether you are refering to a comparison between the full-time MBA and the EMBA or you just wanna ask comments about the EMBA itself. In my opinion, EMBA is not the best place for you to learn business skills. It is a place to meet people, get a degree certificate and set up a network which could be very helpful in your career though.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the helpful comments!

So, the consensus seems to be that EMBA might be good for career-enhancers, not career-switchers.

EMBA might not be a good place to learn hard-core quant skills, but it could be a good place to learn soft skills, earn diploma and network.

The EMBA program I likely will attend has a pretty impressive roster of current students, many of them have “SVP”, “VP”, and “Director” title.  Not that the titles themselves mean anything, but at least they seems to be a pretty experienced bunch of people, and it will be interesting to watch them and learn from them.

Rob,

When you say "likely will attend", I guess you must have conducted a deep analysis of the EMBA Program already. Therefore, if you finally decide that an EMBA would add more value to your career than an MBA, then you should follow your heart. It is no doubt that EMBA has a lot unbeatable advantage especially when you have a decent job in US already.

However, I still insist that EMBA is not the best place for you to learn business skills including the what we call "soft skills". Believe me, you will not have too many interactions with your classmates as all of you have too much workload from your workplace already.

DREAMERINSH,

Thanks for your input!  The program I looked at have a residence format: usually 3 days and sometimes 4 days in a roll, everybody must stay in the same hotel and attend the same class during those days, and there is also a mandatory group session during each stay, so it seems that the program is designed to foster interactions among students as much as possible.  So, I'm somewhat optimistic on this.

Best,

Robert
