From my experience, CFA doesn't add much value to the job hunting. If you've got a job, and they require you to have CFA, they will pay the fees and provide training courses for you. Not very wise to take that unless you've got plenty of time.
UK, but my American colleagues also agree with me. Most big financial institutions sponsor their employess to take exams and give considerable amounts of supports. The question really is whether it's useful to have a CFA level 1 or level 2 before finding a job . My feeling is not much, although others may not agree with me.
