several questions about PP

i know "below surface" is wrong. but how to correct it?

2. the area of the united states was doubled as a result of the louisiana purchase, which made in 1803.
double 可以用作被动语态吗？我记得以前我见到的题目数量变两倍了，都是用主动语态的。大虾帮忙解释一下

3. precipitation in mountainous regions that collects in a number of small valleys that are called rills and gullies.
这道题看也看不懂  好象两个定语从句。怎样改呢？

4. the great bulk of business transactions in the united states is handled by means of credit instruments rather currency.
谓语动词是is 单数，那么transactions 也应该改成单数 transaction 才对啊。

先来几道，欢迎讨论！

1、below---> into

2、 which made -----> which  was made
double词性多样，可是adj、adv、N、vi、和vt。是TOEFL和GMAT中的热点。
因为它既能做及物动词也能做不及物动词，所以它存在被动形式。例如

The price of vegetables has been doubled because of bad weather.

     因为天气不好，蔬菜价格上涨一倍。

4、bulk 是主语。

3. region是可数n. 后面加s代表复数, 而修饰其的that定语从句的谓语却为单数形式, collects 改为 collect.

1为什么用into呢？ 固定搭配 penetrate ... into....?
我觉得3 应该把collects 前面的that 去掉，这样句子才有谓语，意思也没错
大家认为呢 ？
