#73  Colleges and universities should require all faculty to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach.

Write a response in which you discuss your views on the policy and explain your reasoning for the position you take.In developing and supporting your position, you should consider the possible consequences of implementing the policy and explain how these consequences shape your position.

  As a crucial place where talents are cultivated, college and university contributes directly in social education. With the rapid development of science and technology, new discovery is made every day, faculty should get the latest information of their fields to boarder their eyes. However, the policy-maker seems to fail to account the fact that education's ultimate goal is not imparting knowledge, but rather, college should teach students ways of thinking , let them learn how to deal with things and so on.  Thus，there’s no need to force all faculty working outside.
  To begin with, faculty spending time working outside the academic world do have its benefits. The inclusion of varied fields gives faculty a greater insight. Since various disciplines are related, the study of other field may do good to faculty' own and therefore thwart one dominant idea that may be untrue or incomplete from governing. Professors in economics now put the game theory that first established in math into use to explain the economics roles; Professors in sociology try to use psychology to analyze the interaction between people; Professors in biology use chemistry to interpret some phenomenon. All the above show how knowledge in a single field can have influence on the others. It’s necessary for faculty to broaden eyes.
   However, although advantages can be seen obviously, it is unwise to force all faculty to work outside. Consider the following questions: What's the aim of college education? Is it to giving you enough knowledge? I could partly agree, but what's more, I deem that knowledge cannot be given all-sided just through three or four years learning .Nowadays, Society develops so fast that we even cannot follow its pace; Rather, we need to develop the ability to study that once formed can benefit whole life. As a old saying goes" To teach fishing is better than to give fish" So the faculty should focus more on the teaching of thinking method, make it possible that students explore the knowledge themselves. Furthermore, it is the faculty's freedom to choose what they do. Any illegal force infringe upon the citizens' right to liberty. If we implement the policy without judgments, it may cause the faculty’s reluctance and may be backfire.
   In addition, time is limit. While studying up on the other fields, the faculty will surely diminish time spending on their own field. Disadvantages thus give rise. While some economist explore game theory and try to apply more suitable, others find theory that directly used in the  financial area such as James Heckman who is noted for his contributions to selection bias and self-selection analysis especially Heckman correction, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics. Accordingly, it is not to say that working inside the academic world could not make great achievement.
  In summary, the colleges and universities could suggest the faculty to work outside. Nonetheless, it is the faculty who have the right to decide whether do it or not. Schools should focus more on the improving of faculty's teaching method.
