You can directly ask whoever that gives you the offer about placement. It is surely a valid concern for PhD applicants and people understand it. But my impression of Cornell is that it is now becoming a behavioral school and even people who was not doing behavioral are doing behavioral work. Of course there are also outliers (like Holly Yang), but usually people go to Cornell because they are interested in behavioral research. Their behavioral candidates are usually placed to the best behavioral accounting schools in the U.S. ( e.g., UT-Austin and UIUC). However, because the market demand for behavioral researchers in accounting are generally not strong (at least currently), you only have a couple of places to choose when you are on the market (e.g., Austin, UIUC, Pitt, UMass) although Cornell behavioral candidates do have the best behavioral placement. So, you need to think twice before you accept their offer whether you want to invest in doing behavioral research at least during the PhD years.
Thank you for the information. I think behavioral research is pretty interesting, though I am still pretty worried about the placement if only a few schools would like to take candidates focusing on behavioral research.
