Heating-oil prices are expected to be higher this year than last because refiners are paving about S5 a barrel more for crude oil than thev were last year.
(A)Heating-oil prices are expected to be higher this year than last because refiners are paying about $5 a barrel more for crude oil than they were
(B)Heating-oil prices are expected to rise higher this year over last because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did
(C)Expectations are for heating-oil prices to be higher this year than last year's because refiners are paying about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did

(D)It is the expectation that heating-oil prices will be higher for this year over last because refiners are paying about $5 a barrel more for crude oil now than what they were
(E)It is expected that heating-oil prices will rise higher this year than last year's because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did

怎么来了个they were。。。

(E)It is expected that heating-oil prices will rise higher this year than last year's because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did

这里heating-oil prices will rise higher this year中,heating-oil prices是主语,will rise是谓语,higher是状语,然后this year是时间状语。

按照你的话补完的话,last year's prices will rise,对吧。

如果是this year’s prices will rise higher than last year’s,那么即使不出现will也不会有歧义,因为动词后面没有宾语,只是单纯的主谓结构。

I eat faster than you. I eat faster than you do.
I eat more apple than you do.

最后,你说的A的they were的问题,是省略了paying。

refiners are paying about $5 a barrel more for crude oil than they were (paying) last year.

the comparative terms more than should immediately follow $5 a barrel.

paying about $5 a barrel more for crude oil than ... 这里more修饰about $5 a barrel,非常accurate

paying about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than ...

will be higher
will rise

比如这题,读完A选项理解句意,宏观上,A没问题,should be as it is.
什么"Expectations are ..." 或者 "It is ..."

另外关于more 的 还有og后面的94题,有关飞机晚点的问题,正选:55% increase in delays, 错选:55% more delay.

(E)It is expected that heating-oil prices will rise higher this year than last year's because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did
注意这里明确说: "pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil",就说目前约"$5 per barrel"这个价,然后补充说more than they did
