I have been admitted by NYU part-time (best part-time program in US). My company is likely to pay all the tuition. I wonder whether it is worthwhile applying top full-time programs such as HBS and Wharton. The forgone cost will be roughly 90K salary x 2 + tuition and housing expense(100k)=280k, isn't it a lot money?

Well, it's not for you to choose yet.  Can you defer the admissions offer and apply for a full-time program then decide after you have offers from both places?  I think if you include the lost salary into the final number, it will seem daunting.  It's up to the individual to decide what constitutes "worth it."

I prefer full-time and I think it mainly depends on the career plan. At least for a career switcher like me, full-time has clear advantages in terms of landing a job.

What I heard is part-time MBA is a waste of time and money unless you are already in a management position. Normally, a company wouldn't promote you just because you got a partime MBA degree. If I have to choose, I'll go either full time or no MBA.

sign...

Is it possible to study PT at begining and study FT in last year? in another words, is it possible to transfer PT to FT in some time? If yes, you don't need to worry many things.

Glad to find this discussion here.I am also struggling to make the decision. I work very close to New York, would definitely go for a part-time b-school program in the City because many of my friends are in the City. Besides, my target industry is also booming there.

My two cents here is that location does matter. If you go for a part-time where you want to pursue your future career, chances are that you can still build up a beneficiary network through your company and your classmates. It is true that par-timers are less involved in school events, however, the classmates are great resources. Most part-timers are already in management positions and very possibly they could be your future referral or colleagues.

But a top full-time program definitely makes sense because the campus recrurting will be the bridge to your future endeavors.
