再问OG89

我知道这题以前的讨论讲很多遍了, 但我不太能接受........

那个NN能再讲讲........thanx


89.   A recent national study of the public schools shows that there are now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many than there were four years ago.



(A) there are now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many than there were



(B) there is now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many than there were



(C) there is now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many as there were



(D) every thirty-two pupils now have one microcomputer, four times as many than there were(C)



(E) every thirty-two pupils now has one microcomputer, four times as many as








Choices A, B, and C appropriarely use the construction “one X for every thirty-two Y’s” to describe the ratio of computers to pupils, but only C, the best answer, is error-free. In A, are does not agree with the subject, one microcomputer; furthermore, in A, B, and D, than is used where as is required. Choices D and E reorder and garble the “one X...” construction, making four times as many refer illogically to pupils.


主要是(C)与(E)的不同:


(C) there is now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many as there were





(E) every thirty-two pupils now has one microcomputer, four times as many as

疑点一: 为何four times as many as 修饰 every thirty-two pupils 不好, 是illogical???

疑点二: four times as many as 是修饰啥? 像OG-(E)讲的一定修饰主语吗??

疑点三: 如果照之前的讨论, (C)中的four times as many as 是修饰前面的比率 one computer for every thirty-two pupils, 那为何后面用were呢???

four times as many as 有没有可能修饰 (C)中的every thirty-two pupils呢??

谢谢......我认同你说的一个整体概念的意思.....


但不知道你说的是不是比率的关系, 如果是的话, 后面的four times as many as也应该表达比率的关系, 也应该用单数谓语吧......


还是后面是伴随结果的关系....但为何用were呢??


不知道我的认知有无错误???

疑点一: 为何four times as many as 修饰 every thirty-two pupils 不好, 是illogical???

对的,  从本题的意思上讲,  它修饰every thirty-two pupils 是不合逻辑的.  如果真要修饰every thirty-two pupils,  那就应该说one fourth as many as..  是从前一台电脑对应人数的四分之一.

疑点二: four times as many as 是修饰啥? 像OG-(E)讲的一定修饰主语吗??

修饰one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils.  

不知道啥是OG, 哈哈..

疑点三: 如果照之前的讨论, (C)中的four times as many as 是修饰前面的比率 one computer for every thirty-two pupils, 那为何后面用were呢???

只有表示一个的绝对的单数个体或者不可数名词才可以用was, is, does.....

可数名词的分数形式也是和倍数形式一样,  用were, are, do..  所以即使这里是1/32,  也用复数.  

例如: Averagely speaking,  there are 1/32 computers for each student in our school.

four times as many as 有没有可能修饰 (C)中的every thirty-two pupils呢??

没有可能,  理由同第一个问题的回答.

哈哈,  狗狗..  猫可在这里显丑啦..  都不知道GMAT咋回事,  就乱讲一通..

讲这样, 放一个大牛猫在情缘区晃, 倒不如摆在数学区或是逻辑语法阅读任一区来得强.....


总比被鼠辈狂骂好......呵呵......

阿T讲的这个我补充一下:


我看到语法书讲到:


in most expression of quantity, the verb is determined by the noun (or pronoun) that follows of


(1) two-third of the money is mine.


(2) two-third of the pennies are mine.


跟阿T讲的一样.....

因为实际上这个单数还是复数呢?


实际上比较的是电脑的数量


还有就是, GMAT的语法一定是比较出来的, 把不好的不乖的都排除了, 剩下一个马马虎虎就可以了


所有瘸子里面挑将军, 就是这个意思

我想到三种可能性:

(1) four times as many as there were xxx computers(按南瓜m讲的, 指的是整体性的电脑的数量)

(2) four times as many as there were 1/128 computers for each student (按阿T讲的指的是比例的整体关系)

(3) four times as many as there was one computer for each 128 pupils (我的想法)

我想我知道了......谢谢阿T与南瓜.......thanx.....
