不是大牛 仅供参考earlier in the year是过去完成时的标志 请看曼哈顿愈发 过去完成时不一定都要有过去式对应 比如 by 1940, somebody had done something
曼哈顿第110页 Also note that the later past envent does not need to be expressed with a simple past tense, you could also use a date reference
