作者并不同意第一句话的解释。所以不是defends. 反而
是challenges第一句话的解释， 所以 D 是对的。

这句话有点误导。“studies show that a disproportionately large number of the scientists who produce highly creative work beyond the age of forty entered their field at an older age than is usual. ”这句话是说那些在40岁以后作出杰出成就的人是入行较晚的。也就是说他们尽管老，也能作出成就。所以成就与age无关，与入行长久有关

e中,“explanation that the argument defends”就是说是作者的观点，当然不对，作者的观点是最后那句。
