补充2点，可能对assertion和ability的理解有误  -- 想多了。

1. assertion: 不是说assert的东西一定对/好：它只是稍微强烈的(比think...强)态度。think of it as "i'm positive / certain ..."
在这里作者assert的是 frequent introductions of new products have two problematic side effects中的一个

2. ability不代表一个东西一定capable。比如：our ability to finish gmat in 2 hours is extremely weak. 这里也一样，accurately forecast demand by individual SKU 的ability 不够好。

i agree with what you cited.

as i said, 这里，作者“很相信”有2个side effects. highlighted就是举例说明其中一个他“很相信”的side effect. 一点不矛盾。

read my previous post carefully, and read the following dialog:

I: our ability to finish gmat in 2 hours is extremely weak
you: i believe your assertion about that (out ability to...) is correct.

you see what i mean? 这个例子跟考题一个道理。
