Useful protein drugs, such as insulin, must still be administered by the cumbersome procedure of injection under
the skin. If proteins are taken orally, theyare digested and cannot reach their target cells. Certain nonprotein
drugs, however, contain chemical bonds that are not broken down by the digestive system. They can, thus, be
taken orally.
The statements above most strongly support a claim that a research procedure that successfully accomplishes
which of the following would be beneficial to users of protein drugs?
(A) Coating insulin with compounds that are broken down by target cells, but whose chemical bonds are
resistant to digestion
(B) Converting into protein compounds, by procedures thatwork in the laboratory, the nonprotein drugs that
resist digestion
(C) Removing permanently from the digestive system any substances that digest proteins
(D) Determining, in a systematic way, whatenzymes and bacteria are present in the normal digestive system
andwhether they tend to be broken down within the body
(E) Determining the amount of time each nonprotein drug takes to reach its target cells

Tanco, a leather manufacturer, useslarge quantities of common salt to preserve animal hides. New environmental
regulations have significantly increased the cost of disposing of saltwater that results from this use, and, in
consequence, Tanco is considering a plan to use potassium chloride in place of common salt. Research has
shown that Tanco could reprocess the by-product of potassium chloride use to yield a crop fertilizer, leaving a
relatively small volumeof waste for disposal.
In determining the impact on company profits of using potassium chloride in place of common salt, it would be
important for Tanco to research all of the following EXCEPT:
(A) What difference, if any, is there between the cost of the common salt needed to preserve a given quantity
of animal hides and the cost of the potassium chloride needed to preserve the same quantity of hides?
(B) To whatextentis the equipment involved in preserving animal hides using common salt suitable for
preserving animal hides using potassium chloride?
(C) What environmental regulations, if any, constrain the disposal of the waste generated in reprocessing the
by-product of potassium chloride?
(D) How closely does leather that results when common salt is used to preserve hides resemble that which
results when potassium chloride is used?
(E) Are the chemical properties that make potassium chloride an effective means for preserving animal hides
the same as those that make common salt an effective means for doing so?

55.
There is a great deal of geographical variation in the frequency of many surgical procedures-up to tenfold
variation per hundred thousand people between different areas in the numbers of hysterectomies,
prostatectomies, and tonsillectomies.
To support a conclusion thatmuch of the variation is due to unnecessary surgical procedures, it would be most
important to establish which of the following?
(A) A local board of review at each hospital examines the records of every operation to determine whether the
surgical procedure was necessary.
(B) The variation is unrelated to factors (other than the surgical procedures themselves) that influencethe
incidence of diseases for which surgery might be considered.
(C) There are several categories of surgical procedure (other than hysterectomies, prostatectomies, and
tonsillectomies) that are often performed unnecessarily.
(D) For certain surgical procedures, it is difficult to determine after the operation whether the procedures
were necessary or whether alternative treatment would have succeeded.
(E) With respectto howoften they are performed unnecessarily, hysterectomies, prostatectomies, and
tonsillectomies are representative of surgical procedures in general.

Gortland has long been narrowly self-sufficient in both grain and meat. However, as per capita income in
Gortland has risen toward the world average, per capita consumption of meat has also risen toward the world
average, and it takes several pounds of grain to produce one pound of meat. Therefore, since per capita income
continues to rise, whereas domestic grain productionwill not increase, Gortlandwill soon have to import either
grain or meat or both.
Which of the following is an assumption onwhich the argument depends?
(A) The total acreage devoted to grain production in Gortlandwill not decrease substantially.
(B ) The population of Gortland has remained relatively constant during the country's years of growing
prosperity.
(C) The per capita consumption of meat in Gortland is roughly the same across all income levels.
(D) In Gortland, neither meatnor grain is subject to government price controls.
(E)People inGortland who increase their consumption of meat will not radica lly decrease their consumption
of grain.

原题:The following appeared as part of a business plan by the Capital Idea Investment firm.
“Currently more and more books are becoming available in electronic form — either free of charge on the Internet or for a very low price per book on CD-ROM.* People who would not pay bookstore prices will now have access to whatever book they want from their home or work computers. Consequently, literary classics are likely to be read more widely than ever before: 72 percent of those responding to a recent online survey said they would read books in electronic form, and 81 percent said they believed that reading classic works was important. Given this newly developing market, we should invest in E-Classics, a new company that sells electronic versions of literary classics.”

*A CD-ROM is a small portable disc capable of storing relatively large amounts of data that can be read by a computer.

1.More accesses to cheaper books do not necessarily guarantee the desire to read classics.

2.the survey is doubtful

3.It is hard to make profit when there are so many E-books available on the net.

>1min
P: The Tanco used to use salt to preserve the animals hides, but the new regulation increased the price of salt.
P: The Tanco would change use P.C. to replace the salt.
C: the report says that the Tanco will yield the crop fertilizer and make little waste by using P.C.
E: Can Tanco balance the waste and benefit to yield crop fertilizer by using P.C.

1.【36s】
P:drugs could be administered by injection.
drugs taken by orally--> can not reach the target cell.
drugs with bonds-->will not broke down by the digest system.-->C: this drug can be taken orally.
A:A
2.【34s】
P:salt-->preserve hides, salt price increase--> use pc instead. the by-product of pc can use as fertilizer--.little waste
C:this plan will be profit.
3.【30s】
P:geographical variation in  in the frequency of many surgical procedures
C :variation is due to unnecessary surgical procedures
support:different area have different surgical procedures.
A:B(排除他因)(E不可以理解成样本有代表性???)
4.【25s】
P:income increase--》meat consumption increase--》more grain to feed animal
C: import meat or grain or both,
assumption: people will not eat less grain.
A:E

P: The geographical variation of surgery is up to ten fold between the numbers in hy..
C: The variation of surgery is unnecessary.
S: The variations from different areas reveal the similar result.
A: B

(A) A local board of review at each hospital examines the records of every operation to determine whether the
surgical procedure was necessary.
(B) The variation is unrelated to factors (other than the surgical procedures themselves) that influencethe
incidence of diseases for which surgery might be considered.
(C) There are several categories of surgical procedure (other than hysterectomies, prostatectomies, and
tonsillectomies) that are often performed unnecessarily.
(D) For certain surgical procedures, it is difficult to determine after the operation whether the procedures
were necessary or whether alternative treatment would have succeeded.
(strengthen)
(E) With respectto howoften they are performed unnecessarily, hysterectomies, prostatectomies, and
tonsillectomies are representative of surgical procedures in general.
(irrelevant)

Conclusion: The company should invest more E-classic books.
Analysis:
1. The percentage the company provided might be the random samples, the author should provide a more completed survey.
2. Assuming the 81% of people represent in the survey is convincible, but this doesn't conclude that these people will read the E-classic books rather than regular paper books.
3. Among these cheaper and free resources of E-books, how the company can make profit by investing these E-classic books?
