For the second blank, if we go with the correct answer E and look for clues from the second paragraph of the text, perhaps we will be less confused. It shows that the adaptation of those frail features doesn't help we adjust to the environment at all and it is bad as guidance for human behaviors. So overall the they are flawed or disqualified sides of adaptation. Therefore the answer would be E.
