wow! i would expect an "and" there, too. this is ... interesting.
i guess we should just remember this, as one of those one-off idiomatic constructions. there are other constructions (such as "the more X happens, the more Y happens") that don't seem to conform to normal grammar rules, either.

you're right - that WOULD be the construction, if the second part (blocked off by the commas) weren't there.
the added part ("so persistent...") is blocked off by commas on each side. you're inappropriately assigning one of those commas to the larger structure of the sentence, when in fact both of them belong to the modifier.

选E, 我刚问了我先生（他只会说英文），他说“so dogged were...of the garment industry, so persistent her lobbying for...reform" 是 Alfred E.Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt 雇 Frances Perkins的理由，从意思上看是平衡的。

这道题我也错选了C.

所有的帖子都看了,花了3个多小时.
以上这个观点来自老美,因为本身就是在考英语,所以,觉得比较有借鉴.

语法,我们还是要先看逻辑意思,
首先,原句中的and,我们没有理由轻易的把并列的关系改为从属关系
这样的话,CD就排除了,
B导致so和so that重复排除
A结构没有so that结构好,也排除.
再看E,就像"马上考"老公说的,很平蘅.比之前and表达的意思更好.



其次,应试中,A,D句子间以逗号连接,却没有连词,排除.
B导致so和so that重复,排除
而C,E不存在so和so that重复排除重复.
C中把原句中的and没有理由的轻易的把并列关系改为从属关系

还有个解释是请教了老美的博士,说E是个老式的表达,我理解是习惯用语吧.就像中国的成语.


题外话,考试是选择题,我们所能做的就是选择相对较好的.或者,用清晰简洁的方式表达作者想要表达的意思
