Even US top 10 you can not say it's better than top 4 in Mainland. No matter in US and Asia, if you are from Tsinghua or Pku, then it will give you a very big added value. From the other aspect, the student who graduated from these schools actually have stronger ability than students from other school no matter in study or working. In Job market, hr definitely respect top 4 (actually top 2 much much better). In new york, if you heard some one had found a good job in top financial company by himeself(not by family) then 80% percent he is from the top2. Goldman in new york had a trading desk strategy program every year, most of the people in it is from Tsinghua or IIT(india). Goldman asia 2009 ibd summer program had 8 people, 4 from ivy in us, 4 from each of top 4 in mainland china. Actually, no one care about like so called high ranked school in uk,au,nz, the fact is most the student in the normal school in these countries can not even got admitted by a normal school in china mainland. Besides, even the ivy under students are seek opportunities in asia these days, if you are chinese, even you are in top company in us, you are just doing trivial things, dont expect the white guys let you do the core business. So please dont think that new york position is better than hk. Now, it is totally different -- by 会员 wangxianming (2011/4/28 12:55:25)
A lot of people who get US top 10 admissions (like U Chicago, Duke, or top LACs like Amherst and Williams? i suppose) simply give up their chances of getting DIRECTLY into Chinese TOP 4 (especially those who live in big cities). I even heard people give up TOP2 for schools like UVA and UNC. In a way, some students in PKU or THU get the chance because others give them up. It's not fair to say TOP2 students have better ability than TOP 10 students in US. BTW, you can never deny that the education quality in US can definitely give a beat to those in China. Four years' education matters a lot. For the stats you've listed, just remember: how many Chinese students are there in TOP10 US or ivy league (undergraduate level), and how many are there in SEM of Chinese TOP4. Compare at the percentage. I believe that top undergraduate students in US can get many more chances of equal quality as the Goldman one you've mentioned, but no way for TOP2 students I guess. |
