最后those指代什么？我以为是rate of foreclose of owner-occupied homes
因为两个of的介词短语都是修饰rate的

但manhattan说不对，those是指代homes的

为什么in短语中的名称就可以被忽略
of短语中的名词就不会被忽略呢

为什么同样是介词短语中找those的指代对象
为什么in短语中的名称就可以被忽略
of短语中的名词就不会被忽略呢

我雅思到一半有点想念SC，上来踩一脚

那个owner-occupied 是应该要和homes连在一起的。曾经看过RON的帖子说过，that指代名词的话，同时也指代包含名词的modifer,这里就是这个owner-occupied 。

这里是that。
The rate of foreclosure of owner-occupied homes in the northern counties is 75% higher than those in the southern counties
句子看的出来，对比点是不同地方的 rate，所以比较两边的比较点是必须保留的，也就是说：the rate of xxxx in the northern counties  is higher  than the rate of xxx  in the southern counties

如果用those的话，前面的先行词是复数的只有是owner-occupied homes ，那么就是the rate 和 owner-occupied homes 作比较了，明显不对

如果再考试中遇到这道题的话，我会选择The rate of foreclosure of owner-occupied homes in the northern counties is 75% higher than that of foreclosure of owner-occupied homes in the southern counties

1. 这里必须用that of，而不能只用一个“孤零零的that"因为在比较结构里，that如果要出现必须要配着修饰内容的，of xxx结构算是一种修饰结构。

2. in the southern counties内的东西能被忽略吗？不会吧！比较的就是两个不同地方的rate，如果省略了in内部的东西，谁跟谁比？这就不清楚了

having的情况不是100%wordy的，只是正好遇到这道题是wordy。 prep07，还是08里遇到过一道题having xxx结构是对的，不过是因为平行的关系。所以不能这么“死杀”

不要死记，

1. 正常的句子结构是svo and vo, 或者svo and o或者svo, and svo的结果。但是我也遇到过svo, and vo的结构----这个是有特殊情况原因的

2. 代词有个平行的原则， SVO and it xxx的情况，通常根据平行原则，it会指代前面的主语，可是在prep07, section 1的那道grow fish，这个平行原则就不适用

还能举很多很多的违反正常常规的例子，和原则。结果杀招都被一一GMAT破解

我这里的疑问与其说是comparison的对象不清
不如说是pron的指代对象不清

manhattan原话如下

This sentence incorrectly compares the rate of foreclosure(of owner occupied homes in the northern counties) to those in the southern counties. A rate should be compared to another rate.
到此为止都ok，注意下面这句
In contrast, those is meant to stand for homes.
我想问those是怎么指到homes身上的，不是应该就近指代southern counties吗

having been到底什么意思在什么场合用啊
