courant is definitely not nr1 math. depart. in US... where is MIT/Harvard/Princeton?
finance - NYU is definitely not one of the top schools... For IBD, you have Wharton/Columbia/Chicago on the graduate level, for quant/trading you have MIT/Stanford/Princeton/Chicago. Undergraduate wise we are talking HYPSMW.
the program is okay, worse placements than berkeley and cmu. (Stanford doesnt disclose their placements, but the brand name will get you anywhere) Check the students resumés, you will not be many students going for BB. Most of them went to MM shops doing quant works - not to mention becoming a trader.
The school is overall okay and It's a good program, if you don't have other choices and don't hate coding, take it.

Sorry I do have to disagree with you, at least to a certain extent.
For placement, there are four factors, the rate, the job, the company, the pay. Fill me in with more then we can extend the discussion.
The rate is comparably the same for all three I guess, Berkley would come first, CMU/NYU is on par.
The job, well, if we are looking for quants, then NYU would come before both berkley and CMU. They do place people into MM quant positions as I said. But the more prestigious title is trader, and perhaps even some tail risk within IBD. Last time I checked, didn't see many trading related job on their last year resumes.
The company. Stanford/CMU/Berkley have people going for GS/MS and the other BB:s. Even some hedgefund in a good year with good people. This don't happen to NYU, where the students are heading for MM shops...
The pay. No doubt that We have Berkley > CMu > NYU. Stanford is unknown.
Lastly some comments regarding Stanford. Take a look at their students. They are all genius in math. These profiles are not as diverse as Princeton / MIT profiles. But the students are definitely on par with P/M when it comes to previous credentials. Some of them even trumps the average Princeton profile. With the brand name of Stanford on your resumé, I'm pretty sure Stanford trumps NYU in pretty much everything, perhaps not amount of quants though.
Brand name wise. If you did go to HYPWSM for undergraduate, you don't want NYU. If you didn't go to HYPWSM, you want HYPWSM for master.
just my 2 cents.
