求指导,法学院之前是不是应该先去工作?

我现在在美国一所top15上本科,学的是物理和哲学专业。
我以后想要读JD,但是我正在犹豫是不是毕业之后先工作两年,然后再上JD?
我看到哈佛法学院好像基本都是没有工作经验的,但是西北法学院有很多有工作经验的。

要工作的考虑主要有二:
1. 上了这么多年学,对于实际社会其实一点都不了解,基本就生活在校园里,工作两年可以了解社会,懂得社会是怎样运作的。
2. 虽然我父母愿意付钱让我上JD,我考虑到当时自己都已经23岁了,就应该自立了。不能再让父母付钱。虽然对我父母不是个负担,但是我觉得还是很不好。我自己工作也许可以赚一些钱,这样没准可以和父母对半分学费。

不工作的的考虑是:
因为没有专业知识,所以工作似乎也没有什么用处。不如先上了Law school,毕业以后争取进biglaw, 然后在律师行业里积累经验。

如果是读LLM工作过当然最好,如果是JD的话没必要。

我发现很多学校的viewbook里对推荐信的要求都是认为最好让教授写,让老板写推荐信的只是其次,而且似乎还要求在推荐信中能够强调您的学术水平,所以我觉得对JD申请者来讲工作经验不是非常重要,除非你在工作中有突出成绩,从而能够证明你的领导才能啦,分析能力啦之类的。

其实每个学校都不太一样。西北法学院好像绝大多数都有工作经历的。

我主要是担心是不是在学校呆了七年会不太了解社会啊。有的时候是不是工作了一段时间,回来以后就更加了解应该学什么,什么是重要的呢?

LZ, if your major is physics and philosophy, even after your graduation, there is no good job in US for you as either a physicist or philosopher. Going directly to law school would be a better choice. Having said that, if you can back up your application with some real life experience as a volunteer in US or China, or community activist in US, or minority group leader, you would have a good chance to be admitted to a good program.  Of course, GPA and LSAT scores count.

Having said that, if you can back up your application with some real life experience as a volunteer in US or China, or community activist in US, or minority group leader, you would have a good chance to be admitted to a good program.  Of course, GPA and LSAT scores count.

I am not exactly worried about job aspects. I probably won't be a physicist or philosopher anyways. If I do work, then I will probably do consulting or investment banking - or if I can enter a private equity firm, that would be ideal.
I am more worried about going to law school with no prior working experience will affect my understanding of the law.

这没什么关系的,很多JD也是直接读law school的。当然有工作经验好,但没有也不会有什么劣势,英语够好就行啦,professor们上课call on的时候听恐怖的。。。

我认识/听说去哈佛的四个牛人(都不是华人),一个本科直接申,但是暑假实习是在投行的IBD,两个是master直接申(一个u of toronto哲学的,一个uc berkeley engineering),还有一个做过咨询和四大。所以招生还是很diversify的,无论你有没有工作经验。不会说有工作经验反而不prefer你。

西北的确强调工作经验,但是我认识的两个去西北的中国人,都是没有工作经验的,但是读了master。所以也都不是绝对。

基本上来说,牛人工作不工作,学校都会收。
