Cornell MFE在读, 各位potential alumni问问题吧，我尽量回答～

LZ真好，和桃子mm同感，MSF与MFE相比，情况似乎差好多啊。。。弱问一句，LZ的同学有没有MSF毕业或者在读的，你们是什么感觉呢？找工作的时候有没有遇到  还是根本就不是一个级别的啊。。

我们金融系这届的都是申请MFE，有其他系的申请MSF的，有人去的perperdine, 还有个朋友去的WUSTL, 据说找工作都是比较痛苦。虽然我们上届的学长学姐找工作的结果不错，但是过程很艰辛。

LZ,我想问一下 本科的时候你的计算机是修C还是修C++的？金融的课修的多吗？

我本科是金融系的，计算机只修过很初级的东西，后来自己去考了国家二级C。除此之外，也只有几门课里用EXCEL, MATLAB跟一些统计软件。

楼主，我想问你关于MFE的问题。
我本科数学，但是真的不想学再学很专业的数学了，本来想考MFE，但是就怕还是数学。。。。所以想问你们学的东西很数学么？如果是，那是不是主要stats?还有是不是要programming很多？谢谢！

还有，我看你前面说有签citi的intern，请问是什么部门IBD么？还是说你们MFE出来都做quant啊？

MFE跟数学系的hard core数学理论比还是很不一样的。它更讲求实用。我们上学期最数学的课是STOCHASTIC CALCULUS, 其他都很金融。除此之外就是STATS和少量linear algebra. 都是应用层面，对证明都不怎么做要求，数学系出身肯定可以handle的。
如果你去CMU的话，programming会很多，CHICAGO要学C#也比较多编程。我们编程很少，目前只少量用过R和MATLAB.

我签的是CITI Capital Markets, IBD和S&T中间的部门。

能否具体说几个你们在学的金融的course?另外，你们的R和MATLAB是从beginning level开始么？

我们上学期的金融相关课程主要是： Derivative Securities (用John Hull的书），Fixed-Income(Robert Jarrow教的，HJM Model), Equity Derivatives( ETF, Index Futures, Index options, hedging strategies)。另外还有operations research的课(可以WAIVE)，讲OPTIMIZATION, 会用AMPL(比较没用的编程软件）， 还有 FE in Stochastic Calculus ( random walk, Markov process, Martingale, Brownian motion, B-S model) . 这学期在学Portfolio Optimization, Portfolio Management, Credit Risk，Stats for FE( use R). 编程都还是针对beginner的，有RECITATION, TA会教一些。下半学期有门MONTE CARLO IN FE, 要用C++, 要求最好上过C++的课。

我发现你们真的挺金融的！！！那挺好的。。。我本来不敢报MFE就是怕太数学。。。

我的BFF在芝大读MFE，他们开学前有一个REVIEW SESSION, 关于金融，计算机跟数学三方面的复习。并且每学期都要学C#, 平时的课经常会用MATLAB编程。金融的课也不少，Fixed Income, Forex, Derivative什么的都是必修。跟CORNELL相比，反而CORNELL更偏理论一点（数学课稍多，老师比较学术）， CHICAGO开在数学系下反倒更重编程，那边有做QUANT或者S&T的风气。另外他们都是白天休息，晚上上课。具体情况我也没有去详细了解，等她工作定了，我会让她也来开个答疑帖的呵呵～

嗯。。。他们一到美国第一个QUARTER就是找工作高峰期。如果决定去他家，建议去之前的暑假无论如何再找份相关实习（证券，投行）。据我所知，他们program的人目前都还在找，只有一个中国人拿到BLOOMBERG, 而且前景不容乐观。

如果你是非理工本科，那么最好去考一下Math sub. 其实没有比高数难很多啊，只是侧重点不同。MFE更需要 probability theory, measure theory, statistics, stochastic process这类数学知识，一般都是讲求已知定理在金融领域的应用和延伸，对本身的证明和推导基本不做要求的。
说到高数，我本科数学学的是文科类，所以学的挺浅的。。。现在虽然有些吃力，但是整体还是能应付下来的。

hi mm, I have some questions about Cornell's MFE admission.It seems that Cornell focuses on GRE very much, especially in AW parts, from what I read on the website.
I have a low score on AW parts,3.0, but the other qualifications are good.  Do you think the low AW score will have a big effect on my application? thx~

To be honest, I don't see the importance of GRE score during the whole application process, at all. The two classmates from NJU have AW 3.5 and nobody ever mentioned the effect of AW on your application. Instead, you should make sure your TOEFL score meets the requirement. In my program, the recruiter generally expect the speaking part of at least 22 and the total score to be at least 105. If your speaking score is lower than 22, you will be rejected despite other qualifications which is quite wired though...
