曾经问过一遍,关于numbers. 查了前人的解释.不理它了.

但是今天再作发现a 有点不对. its numbers are now five times greater than ( its numbers were)when the use of DDT was sharply restricted in the early 1970's. .

这里省略的部分与前面不同, 至少要补一个did 才对吧

前面的帖子好像没人讨论这个问题.  请教各位.

I think in here "than when the use of DDT was sharply restricted in the early 1970's" is more like "than before" or "than anticipated". You can say it should be "than the numbers were when ......", it seems that you can just use the time adverbial (clause) follow "than" to indicate the comparison between different time.

我认为是now和when时间状语从句的比较。把其类比为than before也未尝不可。

number的大小常用great来修饰  而不用more

请NN解惑，在比较句的省略中，是不是前面是 sb/sth be，后面也是sb/sth be ，在没有歧异的情况下可以省略，而不用理会两个动词是不是同一时态？
