这道题很耗时，一眼看不出来能排除哪几个

考点是，and在前在后，用while，with还是ving
前两个并列造成pollute肯定会更合理一点，B的it不好，E的so that不好，排除
ACD中，D是aground平行 while泄露和污染，污染在后，这逻辑感觉不太对，AC之间，C貌似更简洁，选C。
但是是很不确定的选的。

最简洁的表达，是把最重要的东西放在主语，而不是宾语；前后共享的主语，比如I不必放在最前面，反而可以放在中间连接句子。
reluctant to have extra weight 导致的he refuse，所以这个成分放在前面带着his attmpt是比反过来的顺序更好的。
锁定CE看是否有错，C罗嗦一点，so 和since重复了，选E。

prep讲解
(A)   Correcet；补全省略即there are fewer thanone-quarter as many (as there were in the late 1950s)； fewer修饰可数名词正确；one-quarter在此做副词修饰as many，后面不用再加of，类似于twice as many/much as。


1. as many的用法(摘自Longman):
as many=a number that isequal to another number à表示同样的数字

They say the people of Los Angeles speak 12 languages and teach just as many in the schools.

in as manydays/weeks/games etc.
A great trip! We visited five countries in as many days (=in five days).
  *: "twice as many","one-quarter as many", etc.都是非常常见的用法，记住这样的表达。

185 这道题目选C
some 4000中的some=about，是大约的意思，这里是说有4000家drive-ins。以前有4000家，现在只有不足原先的1/4家，也就是不足1000家。可数名词，不用less，ADE错。
amount：金额，数量，都是用来修饰不可数名词，如：data, praise, money等等，这里是可数名词，所以不能用amount
