这里的background, 可以讲一些职业上的经历,成绩吗?

因为另外两个essay分别问的, career goal, aspiration 和why duke, 都难以涉及professional success.

我认为是讲你的价值观及其形成过程。美国人有时候很喜欢玩这种虚的，价值观啥的。
他们很喜欢听故事，很喜欢听你从故事里学到了什么。professional background我认为是可以的，但必须反映到价值观上面去，而不能仅仅停留在success层面。

Hello there—this is a good question, and one that we have chatted about here before—happy to share our thoughts again!  J  Yes, you should try to cover aspects OTHER than work in this essay.  And the reason is, you will be covering your professional aspirations in essay 1.  Same with Why Duke—so this would be your only chance to describe aspects of your candidacy other than professional aspects.  Can you include some work pieces?  Of course you can.  But this is your chance to discuss things that are “non-work” related, just as the question asks.
