I've worked in China for about 4 years in HR. Now i am considering a Ph.D program and because of location, I can only consider UW. They dont have an exact HR Ph.D program but under PhD of Management, they have human resources management direction. Any NN here know something inside? How's the program in term of career development? Is it possible to land a job in industries rather than academics with a Ph.D?
UW's program in management is far away from HRM. they are more OB-oriented. bruce avolio and CXP are both big names there.
people with phd in management normally find a job in the academia. if you want to go for industry jobs, i would strongly suggest you stay away from phd studies. your career plan would not be even close enough to arm you with whatever it takes to bear the 5-yr doctoral program.
UW-Madison? We have a MBA/HR program. It's awesome! I would recommend you try this one if you're looking for landing a job in industries. BTW, we also have a great PHD program as you might know.
