。。GWD啊GWD。。。。

GWD31-40

A shortage of orders for Manto Aircraft’s airliners has led analysts to predict that the manufacturer will have to lay off workers, the new order that consolidated airlines has just made for 20 of Manto’s model TX jets does not provide a reason for the analysts to revise their predictions, because simultaneously with its new order, consolidated canceled its existing order for an equal number of manto’s larger, more expensive model Z jets.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?

A.    Manto relies more heavily on outside subcontractors to provide the labor to manufacture the model Z than it does the model TX

B.    The Manto employees who currently work to manufacture the model Z are not proficient at manufacturing the model TX

C.    Manto includes all required maintenance work for the first five years in the price of each jet it sells

D.    Manto has had to lay off workers several times within the past ten years but has typically rehired many of the workers when it subsequently received new orders

E.     A large number of the airliners in consolidated fleet are at the beginning of their expected service life

选A

28. GWD28-Q28:

Which of the following most logically completes the argument?

A certain cultivated herb is one of a group of closely related plants that thrive in soil with high concentrations of metals that are toxic to most other plants.  Agronomists studying the herb have discovered that it produces large amounts of histidine, an amino acid that, in test-tube solutions, renders these metals chemically inert.(惰性)  ossibly, therefore, the herb’s high histidine production is what allows it to grow in metal-rich soils, a hypothesis that would gain support if ______.

A.    histidine is found in all parts of the plant—roots, stem, leaves, and flowers

B.    the herb’s high level of histidine production is found to be associated with an unusually low level of production of other amino acids

C.    others of the closely related group of plants are also found to produce histidine in large quantities

D.    cultivation of the herb in soil with high concentrations of the metals will, over an extended period, make the soil suitable for plants to which the metals are toxic

E.    the concentration of histidine in the growing herb declines as the plant approaches maturity
E→Correct : It is stated in the hypotheses above that histidine allows the herb to GROW. It means that as long as the herb is growing, histidine is high and as the herb approaches MATURITY the concentration of histidine declines.

Q29:

Lofgren’s disease has been observed frequently in commercially raised cattle but very rarely in chickens. Both cattle and chickens raised for meat are often fed the type of feed that transmits the virus that causes the disease.Animals infected with the virus take more than a year to develop symptoms of Lofgren’s disease, however, and chickens commercially raised for meat, unlike cattle, are generally brought to market during their first year of life.

Which of the following is most strongly supported by the information provided?

  1. The virus that causes Lofgren’s disease cannot be transmitted to human beings by chickens.
  2. There is no way to determine whether a chicken is infected with the Lofgren’s disease virus before the chicken shows symptoms of the disease.
  3. A failure to observe Lofgren’s disease in commercial chicken populations is not good evidence that chickens are immune to the virus that causes this disease.
  4. An animal that has been infected with the virus that causes Lofgren’s disease but that has not developed symptoms cannot transmit the disease to an uninfected animal of the same species.
    E.
The feed that chickens and cattle are fed is probably not the only source of the virus that causes Lofgren’s disease.

Which of the following is most strongly supported by the information provided?

The virus that causes Lofgren’s disease cannot be transmitted to human beings by chickens. There is no way to determine whether a chicken is infected with the Lofgren’s disease virus before the chicken shows symptoms of the disease.(未发病之前没有办法断定鸡是不是有病,有没有方法可以判断鸡得不得病不是文章得终点,终点在于逻辑推理的缺陷。 A failure to observe Lofgren’s disease in commercial chicken populations is not good evidence that chickens are immune to the virus that causes this disease.(没有查处记得病不能得出鸡有免疫力,正确,鸡没到发病期就杀了,当然是A failure to observe Lofgren’s disease,这肯定就不能断定说鸡比起牛难得病

Which if the following, if true, most logically completes the argument?

Aroca County’s public schools are supported primarily by taxes on property.  The county plans to eliminate the property tax and support schools with a new three percent sales tax on all retail items sold in the county.  Three percent of current retail sales is less than the amount collected through property taxes, but implementation of the plan would not necessarily reduce the amount of money going to Aroca County public schools, because ______.

    A.  many Aroca County residents have already left the county because of its high property taxes

    1. a shopping mall likely to draw shoppers from neighboring counties is about to open in Aroca County

    2. at least some Aroca County parents are likely to use the money they will save on property taxes to send their children to private schools not funded by the county

    3. a significant proportion of parents of Aroca County public school students do not own their homes and consequently do not pay property taxes

    4. retailers in Aroca County are not likely to absorb the sales tax by reducing the pretax price of their goods
B is absolutely rught. Three percent of current retail sales is less than the amount collected through property taxes, but  plan would not necessarily reduce the amount .

GWD31-Q17 B
It is crucially important to farmers that the herbicides they use to control weeds not damage their crops. One very effective herbicide is safe for corn, but soybeans are damaged even by the herbicide’s residue, which remains in the soil more than a year after the herbicide is applied. Soybeans and corn are not sown together in the same field; nevertheless, most farmers are reluctant to use the herbicide on their corn.

Which of the following, if true, provides the strongest justification for the farmers’ reluctance?

A.    ! The residue of the herbicide in the soil a year after application is not enough to control most weeds effectively.

B.    To maintain the nutrients in the soil, corn and soybeans are often planted in a field in alternate years.

C.    The demand for soybeans is growing faster than is the demand for corn.  和demand无关

D.    For maximum yield, soybean plants are grown closer together to each other than are corn plants.

E.    The application of herbicides is less critical for soybean than for corn crops.  无关

A theory is either true or false. Galileo’s observations of Jupiter’s satellites showed that the Ptolemaic theory of the motion of celestial bodies is false. Therefore, since the Copernican theory of planetary motion is inconsistent with the Ptolemaic account, Galileo’s observations of Jupiter’s satellites proved the truth of the Copernican theory.
The argument above is open to the objection that it makes the questionable assumption that

A.    Whoever first observed something inconsistent with the truth of the Ptolemaic theory should be credited with having proved that theory false.

B.    There are some possible observations that would be inconsistent with the account given by the Copernican theory but consistent with the account given by the Ptolemaic theory.

C.    The Ptolemaic and Copernican theories, being inconsistent, cannot both be based on exactly the same evidence   反

D.  Numerous counterexamples were necessary in order to show the Ptolemaic theory to be false

E.    The Ptolemaic and Copernican theories, being inconsistent, cannot both be false.

Which of the following, if true, would most weaken the budget deficit explanation for the discrepancy mentioned in line 27?

A。 One is that traditional measures fail to reflect service-sector productivity growth 由于事实上service-sector quality 变好了。

新观点:但是作者反驳说,实际上并不存在new technologies 缺乏的问题(no dearth of technological resources), 是由于managers in the service sector 不想采用先进技术造成的。

因为are the forces-such as corporate takeovers and unnecessary governmental regulation.

A. Research shows that the federal budget deficit has traditionally caused service companies to invest less money in research and development of new technologies.

B. New technologies have been shown to play a significant role in companies that have been able to increase their service productivity.

C. In both service sector and manufacturing, productivity improvements are concentrated in gains in quality.
后来想想,这个他因只能解释both service sector and manufacturing 的productivity 无法提高,但是无法削弱federal budget deficit会产生discrepancy。

D. The service sector typically requires larger investments in new technology in order to maintain productivity growth than dose manufacturing
E. High interest rates tend to slow the growth of manufacturing productivity as much as they slow the growth of service-sector productivity in the United States.

Among people who experience migraine headaches, some experience what doctors call "common" migraines, whereas others experience "classical" migraines.  Siblings兄弟姐妹 and spouses配偶  of common migraine sufferers are themselves twice as likely as the general population to experience common migraines.  Siblings of classical migraine sufferers are four times more likely than the general population to experience classical migraines, whereas spouses of classical migraine sufferers are no more likely than the general population to experience such headaches.

The information above provides the most support for which of the following hypotheses?

(A) Susceptibility易感性 to classical migraines is more dependent on hereditary遗传的 factors than is susceptibility to common migraines.

(B) Unmarried adults are more likely to suffer from classical migraines than they are to suffer from common migraines.

(C) People who do not experience migraine headaches are unlikely to have spouses who are migraine headache sufferers.

(D) Children of people who suffer from common migraines are not more likely than the general population to experience a common migraine.

(E) Between one-quarter and one-half of the general population suffer from either common or classical migraine headaches.
