SC DOING:
solve OG problems, focus the vast majority of your attention on finding ERRORS; make a tally of the # of errors of each type that you failed to see, and the # of times you detected 'error' that weren't actually errors; do a group of problems, keep ONE OR TWO of the most persistent errors in mind; do the same for other error types on later sets of problems.
REVIEWING: each SC problem should yield enough juice for about 10-15 minutes of review!
what are the SIGNALS in this problem that tell me what problem type it is? what sort of STRATEGIES have worked on simmer problem? what FACTORS have caused me to miss similar problems in the past? STUDY CORRECT ANSWERS, since everything in the correct answer must be correct. DIFFICULT PROBLEM:
analyze the problem and find the TRICKS AND TRAPS in the problem. (if you missed the problem, there should always be at least one of these!) find the SIGNALS in the problem that give clues to the correct strategy. this is best done via cross-comparisons among similar problems. try to find ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES that would work for the problem, as well as for similar problems. |
