一个让步之后必有转折的例子, 一小段5个转折考了5道题!

At first, thousands of unskilled laborers were recruited;1 by the 1730's,however(强转折), American employers demanded skilled artisans.

Finally, Bailyn argues that the colonies were a half civilized hinterland of the European culture system. 2He is undoubtedly correct+ to insist that the colonies were part of an Anglo-American empire. But to divide the empire into English core and colonial periphery, as Bailyn does, devalues- the achievements of colonial culture. 3 It is true, as Bailyn claims, that high culture in the colonies never matched that in England. But what of seventeenth-century New England, where the settlers created effective laws, built a distinguished university, and published books? 4Bailyn might respond that New England was exceptional. However, the ideas and institutions developed by New England Puritans had powerful effects on North American culture.

5Although Bailyn goes on to apply his approach to some thousands of indentured servants who migrated just prior to the revolution, he fails to- link their experience with the political development of the United States.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(B) Migrants who came to the colonies as indentured servants were more successful at making a livelihood than were farmers and artisans.无
(C) Migrants to colonial North America were more successful at acquiring their own land during the eighteenth century than during the seventeenth century. 无
(D) By the 1730's, migrants already skilled in a trade were in more demand by American employers than were unskilled laborers.
(E) A significant percentage of migrants who came to the colonies to acquire land were forced to work as field hands for prosperous American farmers. 无
(A) It is totally implausible.
(B) It is partially correct.
(C) It is highly admirable.
(D) It is controversial though persuasive.
(E) It is intriguing though unsubstantiated.
3(原第4题).According to the passage, Bailyn and the author agree on which of the following statements about the culture of colonial New England?
(A) High culture in New England never equaled the high culture of England.
(B) The cultural achievements of colonial New England have generally been unrecognized by historians.反
(C) The colonists imitated the high culture of England, and did not develop a culture that was uniquely their own. 反
(D) The southern colonies were greatly influenced by the high culture of New England. 无
(E) New England communities were able to create laws and build a university, but unable to create anything innovative in the arts. 反
(A) Bailyn underestimates the effects of Puritan thought on North American culture.
(B) Bailyn overemphasizes the economic dependence of the colonies on Great Britain.
(C) Bailyn's description of the colonies as part of an Anglo-America empire is misleading and incorrect.
(D) Bailyn failed to test his propositions on a specific group of migrants to colonial North America.
(E) Bailyn overemphasizes the experiences of migrants to the New England colonies, and neglects the southern and the western parts of the New World.
5(原第2题).The author of the passage states that Bailyn failed to
(A) give sufficient emphasis to the cultural and political interdependence of the colonies and England
(B) describe carefully how migrants of different ethnic backgrounds preserved their culture in the United States
(C) take advantage of social research on the experiences of colonists who migrated to colonial North America specifically to acquire land
(D) relate the experience of the migrants to the political values that eventually shaped the character of the United States
(E) investigate the lives of Europeans before they came to colonial North America to determine more adequately their motivations for migrating
顺序:13482,发现GMAT不按文章顺序出题!?
kevin现在的阅读总结进行得是如火如荼啊~ 我也在进行中,不过总结出来得东西可没你详细。你好厉害啊,一天总结10个还闲少,我最多得一天也是8篇,感觉似乎量太少,比较不出什么感觉。争取像你学习总结多一点。
你是不是一整天都光总结阅读,还是还干其它得?怎么可以总结这么多又这么详细?你现在大概总结得方法是什么?是不是就是把文章分类,然后题目分类,答案还原,在文章中标出题点?我目前是这么做得,用铅笔在OG上画啊画的,画成个大花猫了,看得我眼花,又不敢用荧光或圆珠笔,怕画错了毁了那本OG。
现在多少总结了点错误选项的规律,但还没有什么出题点的敏锐性。你觉得正确选型又规律可寻吗?我觉得没有哦,总结来总结去都是关于怎么错的,而不是怎么对的。有望kevin指点啊,真好你也在做阅读总结,这样可以同步进行并可以从你那里取来不少经哦~ 加油~
历史总是在重演,你想问的前人早已回答了!
以下引用 Chipmunk GMAT 760:
"我想大家可能和我一样对阅读有一种束手无策的感觉,我以前也是这样。但是我一直记得以前在GRE的时候,他讲过做错题目不怕,最重要的是要知道为什么做错,这道题目到底考什么,ETS在哪里挖了坑等着你去跳,知道哪里错了,有什么办法下次不犯同样的错。按照他的思路,我先做了一遍杨继的书,找找感觉,然后一篇一篇地总结,希望能够找到一套方法对付ETS的阅读,事先说明这和你的阅读能力没有特别大的关系,只是对GMAT有用,本人的阅读极慢,好象到现在也没有长进。
先把我的思路整理出来,每个人可能有不同方法,但是思路应该是一样的:
1。把阅读题目分类,找出GMAT一般会问什么类型的题目。(我的总结大概有这么几类:全文主题,一段话的用意,列举题,举例作用题,还有其他一些杂项题)
2。按各类题目找到相对应的文中位置,看文章是怎么样表述的。
3。总结出应该怎样阅读相应的句子才能推出正确答案。
我想大家也有体会,考阅读中最头疼不是题目难,而是看了一遍文章,做题目的时候不知道选什么好,再回过头去看文章,因为怕耽误太多时间又不敢多看,再做题目还是没有思路,这时候有一种绝望的感觉,除非你的心理素质特别好,要不然这种心态还会影响到以后的题目中,这样的代价可能是三或四道题目。根据这样的思路我特别总结出了一套适合我自己的阅读方法,那就是慢读法:每读完一段文章花可能十秒钟的时间总结一下这段话到底讲什么,在整篇文章中起什么作用,因为刚读完比较新鲜,所以十秒钟就够了,其他的细节分别记住位置。看到列举了1234,就知道或者会考12345,让你挑哪一个不是列举的对象,或者考1234中的其中一个,所以只要记住位置,回头一找就可以了。看到举例,估计会考举例的作用,到时候回头找到例子,要么意义在例子的上下文,,一找就可以找到;要么例子对整段话起作用,你在回顾一段话的作用时已考虑在内,已不足为虑。其他看到有引号的,对比的,比喻的等等都记住位置,ETS大致会动这些脑筋。其实大家仔细分析一下就可以知道,要考一段话的内容的话,什么样的题目最难呢?当然是对这段话的概括了,把这点抓住了,其他就简单了。
这样的阅读可能在读文章的方面花的时间多了一点,但是在回答总体题的时候基本上不用花时间,细节题只要回头找就行了。所以总的来说花的时间和快读差不多,但是你会发现做题的准确率上有很大的提高。
另外我还总结出ETS除了总体题外,90%的题目考的范围都在一段话之内,所以按照每一段来总结是很有帮助的。
要知道每篇文章给大家的时间差不多只有八分钟,还要做题目,根本来不及去理解每一句话的意思,最后大家要做到的只是看到一篇文章,一边读一边大致知道这段话要怎么记,要记到什么程度,还有后面题目大概会怎么考,其他不相干的只要跳过就行了。另外补充一点,要不然大家会走到另一个极端,那就是背景阅读很重要,背景阅读的范围限于MAT会考的题材,读文科的找一些浅的科普文章看看,读理科的可以看一些历史和经济的文。如果实在找不到好的题材,直接那GMAT以前的阅读题来看也行。
好了,罗哩罗嗦说了这么一大堆关于阅读的,其实每个人的方法可能不尽相同,但是基本的思路应该是一样的,那就是不要光顾低头做题,更重要的是知道ETS考什么,怎么考,自己应该用什么套路对付,多花点时间在这上面才会有提高。要知道题目只是工具,通过它你要培养自己的正确的对敌感觉,要不然一看到新的题目又不会做了。"
