继续随机写作文,克服对作文的恐惧。 ******************** Date: 2010-8-29 Time: 20:44:50 Issue No.18 ******************** Question: `If the primary duty and concern of acorporation is to make money, then conflict is inevitable when the corporationmust also acknowledge a duty to serve society.~ From your perspective, how accurate is theabove statement? Support your position with reasons and/or examples from yourown experience, observations, or reading.
******************** Your Answer: Rather than merely consider about theprofits, nowadays many companies' management take corporate social responsibilities intoaccount when they make decisions. Nobody can deny that companies bare not only fiduciary duty to theirshareholders, or namely owners, but also responsibility to all the otherstakeholders including customers, government, community and so forth. But whatis the primary purpose of a company, to make money or to increase the welfareof the society? Many people argue that financial goal is the original drivingforce of a business, so that when there are conflicts, any other purpose shouldgive way to profitability. However, others posit that although the incentive ofmaking money is not evil in itself,a care for public should rank first than any other demands. As far as I amconcerned, though perhaps there is a seemingly short-term conflict between thefinancial goal and the social goal, in the long run, actions serving one goalwill help the company to achievethe other, as long as the business is operated in a legal way. People may wonder why I hold this opinion.Let us work this out together. In the first place, let us suppose a company rankthe profitability first. Then the management may think about nothing but how to sell its products. If they succeed, thenthe revenue will surge. As a result, it will submit huge tax to the government. And then the statesmen can use this money to provide public goods. So even whenthe seemingly businessman show nothing but greedy, he still does good to thesociety, in an indirect way. And in the second place, if the owner of acompany considers the public interestmore significant than profitability, then he will directly sacrifice some of his owncurrent benefits to protect the public interests such as by donating. And thiskind of behavior will bring the company excellent reputation and thereforeattract more potential customers, helping it to achieve the financial goal. Many people may cite the evidence that manycompanies are hurting the environment while trying to maximum its profits. However, this is a entirely different story since the owner is running it in anillegal way. So the illegal action instead of the financial goal should be blamed. From all our discussions above, we cansafely generate the conclusion that either the goal of profitability or thewill of serving the public can bring the society good things, as long as a goodlegal system is operated smoothly and efficiently.
