2(Z). With a record number of new companies starting up in Derderia, and with previously established companies adding many new jobs, a record number of new jobs were created last year in the Derderian economy. This year, previously established companies will not be adding as many new jobs overall as such companies added last year. Therefore, unless a record number of companies start up this year, Derderia will not break its record for new jobs created.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument relies?

A.In a given year, new companies starting up create more new jobs on average than do previously established companies.

B.The number of people seeking employment is no larger this year than it was last year.

C.This year, the new companies starting up will not provide substantially more jobs per company than did new companies last year.

D.Previously established companies in Derderia will be less profitable this year than such companies were last year.

E.The number of jobs created in the Derderian economy last year was substantially larger than the number of jobs lost.

6.(Z)Agricultural societies cannot exist without staple crops. Several food plants, such as kola and okra, are known to have been domesticated in western Africa, but they are all supplemental, not staple, foods. All the recorded staple crops grown in western Africa
were introduced from elsewhere, beginning, at some unknown date, with rice and yams. Therefore, discovering when rice and yams were introduced into western Africa
would establish the earliest date at which agricultural societies could have arisen there.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

A.People in western Africa did not develop staple crops that they stopped cultivating once rice and yams were introduced.

B.There are no plants native to western Africa that, if domesticated, could serve as staple food crops.

C.Rice and yams were grown as staple crops by the earliest agricultural societies outside of western Africa.

D.Kola and okra are better suited to growing conditions in western Africa than domesticated rice and yams are.

E.Kola and okra were domesticated in western Africa before rice and yams were introduced there.

9To protect certain fledgling industries, the government of Country Z banned imports of the types of products those industries were starting to make. As a direct result, the cost of those products to the buyers, several export-dependent industries in Z, went up, sharply limiting the ability of those industries to compete effectively in their export markets.

Which of the following can be most properly inferred from the passage about the products whose importation was banned?

(A)Those products had been cheaper to import than they were to make within Country Z's fledgling industries.

(B)Those products were ones that Country Z was hoping to export in its turn, once the fledgling industries matured.

(C)Those products used to be imported from just those countries to which Country Z's exports went.

(D)Those products had become more and more expensive to import, which resulted in a foreign trade deficit just before the ban.

(E)Those products used to be imported in very small quantities, but they were essential to Country Z's.

这道题我也纠结了很久,选不出,但可以肯定B不对,因为文中已经明确指出"all the recordede staple crops grown in western Africa were introduced from elsewhere.",这已是既定的事实,即evidence,我们所要攻击或加强的是逻辑链,而非事实。

2.
choice A.
This is of the form, if not A then not B
A->staple crops
B->agricultural societies
In this argument, rice and yams are assumed as examples of the staple crops mentioned earlier. Using this, a conclusion is drawn that if it can be known when rice and yams were introduced, it could also be known when the agricultural societies in western Africa
were established.

This is based on the assumption that rice and yams were the first staple crops in W.A. Choice A clearly states that

3.
IMO A.
It is said that along with rice and yams all staple crops got introduced there. But it may be the case that during same time when rice and yams got
introduced, African ppl cud hav developed crop which they used to cultivate into staple crops.
A states that so A shd be answer.

Let me try~lol~
A:
It is assumption question; therefore, if I eliminate the not, the sentence  will be a weaken form---People in western Africa did develop staple crops that they stopped cultivating once rice and yams were introduced.

The staple crops had already existed  in the western Africa, before the rice and yams were introduced. Thus, "establish the earliest date of the staple crop"  does not supported any more.

Is that right?
