Of course, the admission is a totally BIASED process although it is a relatively FAIR game within each school. Don’t expect the admission committee (, ADCOM, usually consisting of 2-4 persons) will treat each applicant fairly and equally. The philosophy of the leading person, who is in charge of the committee, decides what kind of candidates would be chosen. Some likes the undergraduate from top schools, while some prefers master’s students. In addition, they have to balance lots of non-academic factors: ages, female (being chosen over male other things equally held) or male, origin countries of applicants and those of current students, and etc. At the final stage, I don’t think the GMAT score is a big factor, especially for Chinese. I’ll discuss GMAT in a separate topic later on.Then you will say the luck must play a big role for applications. In fact, the luck does. You never know which aspects of your application would be highly valued by the ADCOM. The implication of this biased game is to apply for a reasonable number of ranking-diversified schools.
-- by 会员 lightandtruth (2010/6/7 11:18:01)
但是正如一位Cochrane在AFA招聘会上说的,one university can be biased, but the whole market cannot be too biased.
