first, not everyone can start his/her own company and be successful. Most people will end up working for a great corporation and retire after certain years. A high ranking MBA will give you opportunites to access those resources, either through OCI or alumni network. The so-called "Quan Zi" is what average school cannot give you.

second, when a person becomes successful without any advanced education, he/she usually emphasizes a lot that degree is nothing. if you have watched the "Apprentice" on TV, Troy always wanted to remind people that he has no education but made this far. It is the common sense. but we have to think rationaly. what percentage of business people who have a successful career without a pretigous education? the truth is: not that many

third, don't put your dream on transferring. it is very difficult to do.

again, I have nothing against success people with no advanced education. actually I admire them a lot, because they have to give more than everyone else. several people who are very close to me became successful with no advanced degree, and I always love to listen to what they have to say.

one more thing, what do we learn in MBA, the text book? no, I would rather say it is the discussion. The level of your classmates define how much you are going to learn in the classroom.

I had a few friends in U Minn and one in Carlson. Just some information re: carlson to share:

carlson placement is astonishingly high, but it might got biased towards P.R and U.S citizen. job placement is quite regional( 3M ..etc ). there were successful examples as well as bad ones as far as placement concern for chinese, but overall 2003 placement for chinese who needs H1 sponsorship is not very optimistic, but it crossed boards for all schools.

Some rumors said that tuition might be changed to in-state after 1st sememster you complaining with FA officer which could release your financial burden a little bit.

Overall Student body Quality is quite strong( numurous students in carlson are from top5 UG). However ranking in USNEWs might be biased. It might be considered as a regional school, but it was said that CMC was trying to broadcast in West Coast....etc.

But weather in Minn is COLD- can easily reach -20 ~ -30 C in winter.  You might need to learn to like the cold weather if you decided to stay in US for jobs.
