Most importantly, be sure to answer the question. If the question only asks for what your weakness is, then don't tell them 'here is what my weakness is, and here's what I've done to work on it.' Rather, spend the time to show them how you came to understand that it is a weakness. The earlier latter (wrong) answer at best shows that you can't answer questions and that you've wasted ink better used on other issues, and at worst shows that you're finding excuses.
On the other hand, if they ask you 'what have you done to overcome your weaknesses?', then tell them just that.
I also think that saying even that you are 'lacking in business ethic' is not a big problem. Do you really just mean that 'you'll do anything to get something done', and that that's a huge problem because you've made some mistakes in the past, and you have the following painful example to show for it? If so, that shows tremendous personal growth. Some people still stubbornly refuse to admit that it's a problem- the fact that you have, means that you're showing maturity.
Again, everyone makes mistakes, and everyone has weaknesses. The fact that you have highlighted something as a weakness means that you can now improve (although, again, don't waste ink telling how you've improved unless they ask for it). How many applicants will actually dare to say that they lack business ethics, for instance? That kind of self-awareness and honesty could really make you stand out as a truly outstanding applicant. |
