Accompanied by localalumni speaking about their own Bocconi MBA experience, senior admissionsofficer Francesca Roveda shared details of the managerial and personal growththat Chinese candidates could expect from the intensive one-year programme.
The level of interest was such that theinformation session ran over by two hours, but alumni were happy to answer allquestions, and included admissions advice for those applying for the 30 Aprildeadline to join the school in September 2010. "As one of the top businessschools in Europe we attract a lot of outstanding Chinese candidates,"Roveda explained. "This is a great time to do a 12-month MBA programme, and we want to give applicants all the help and advice we can to successfullyapply for the 30 April deadline." The school had also received manyenquiries from candidates living outside of Shanghai, and Roveda explained thatshe and colleagues we personally available to discuss candidate profiles andthe application process through individual phone meetings, or to her email at francesca.roveda@sdabocconi.it.
So why is SDA Bocconi such a popular destinationfor Chinese students? "SDA Bocconi offers academic excellence in one ofEurope's most dynamic and stylish cities," Francesca Roveda pointed out."Our students get to understand their own talents and professional goals, acquiring core managerial knowledge and leadership skills that are directlyapplicable to the international marketplace."
This is a view shared by 1997 MBA graduate PeterSchulten, who attributes a large part of his career success in Shanghai to histime at SDA Bocconi. "THE MBA toolbox and its intensive applicationcontributed to a much more focused and fulfilling work life," he said,"and you are in a lively city that is only one hour from the mostbeautiful mountains, the Mediterranean sea, and Europe's historic cities."
Peter also talked about the importance of the SDABocconi network, which is one of the biggest in Europe. He is now working on aproject with a Hong Kong alumnus who studied at SDA Bocconi in 2003. With somany leading MBA recruiters on the Milan-based campus each year, includingGoldman Sachs, JP Morgan, McKinsey & Co., luxury brand groups and theglobal industrials, pharmaceuticals and telecoms firms, the SDA Bocconi networkstretches across continents. The MBA programme reinforces the internationaldimension by training students to grasp cultural intricacies and cross-bordercommunication.
The development of such soft skills was importantfor Lily Zhou, who graduated in 2006. "The faculty were always availableand easy to discuss with, and helped me to better understand situations inrelation to my own needs." Now based at Banque Accord in Shanghai, Lilyrealizes how important it was to develop soft skills. "Communication, negotiation, interpersonal, leadership - I was able to achieve all this duringmy time at SDA Bocconi."
