MSF is just a degree, it does not determine what you are going to do in the future.I have seen a top MFE graduate work as an accountant in a hospital.

I agree with yelu1988, it really depends on you interests and your efforts. Corporate Finance/Accounting/Equity Research/Asset Management/Investment Banking/Private Equity/S&T.... Anything is possible. Many Chinese believe they can actually get a XX job by getting a YY degree, taking MM courses or taking NN exams. I just think that they are very naive. There are many many more things you need to do.

For example, if you want to pursue a job in equity research, beside taking as many accounting courses and valuation courses as you can, you also need to follow the market. WSJ, reuters, bloomberg are you best friends. Read as many research reports as you can get a hand on, learn how to use software such as Bloomberg and Factset. Join the investment club at your school, learn and practise how to do stock pitches. Polish your resumes and cover letters, get as many experienced people to read them, and keep working on them until nobody can find any non-controversial improvements. (My resumes and cover letters were edited 100+ times). Attend as many on corporate presentations as you can, talk to the people doing equity research and ask smart questions. Follow up with them and arrange as many information interviews with people from the companies you are interested in as you can. Utilize the alumni resources you have....

To be honest with you, the above mentioned things are just the basic. There are still many many things I have not covered. I'm sure someone who is actually in the equity research field can fill a lot more in.

Unfortunately, many people have no idea what they are doing and what they want to do in the future when they come to US. They can't communicate well and they don't know how to network with people. By the time they have a sense of what they want to do in the future, one year has passed and they are about to graduate... how can you expect them to secure offers?

I've seen similar answers again and again for questions like how to become an IB, am I qualified to go to XX IB, what kind of job can i find after earning MSF/MBA.

I think it is quite usual that people who have yet to enter the industry have no idea of what they can do and want to do. But I agree with you; people really need to do research to find their own answers rather than ask for an answer.

For this question, no one can give you an answer. Just think about when you did your bachelor degree! It's the same.

Those above are really impressive answers. However, I get a minor disagreement there that not all people will get into ib sector at the end. There are plenty of other opportunities in the finance industry. You could become analyst, you could come back to China and work for the govn't or some family businesses, etc. I bet there are more chances and needs back in China.
I definitely agree that one person need to spend tremendous efforts and time to be successful, but sometime we probably need to think about what are some resouces we have around us, what are some better directions to go? Again, using my uncle's example, he did one Phd in China when he was an associative professor. To chase his American dream, he came to U.S. and did another Phd, wishing that would in return get him a good paid job. However, what happened at the end is that he doesn't dare to go back home after staying 11 years in U.S. since he is still holding a H-1 Visa. He is the only person feeding the whole family, facing the big financial burden of his kids' education. On the other hand, if he stayed in China for such a long period of time, he probably already got some big titles. I've seen many other Chinese as well having this kind dilemma. They're not losers, they probably just made some not quite wise decisions. They stayed years hoping to gain the status in Ameirca but then had the trouble dealing with their kids' euducation.
It's true American univs get better higher education. But when we have such a tough life in U.S., why don't we think of going back and spend maybe half of the efforts you did in America and strive to get your own way of success? The majority of us are not from the privilege families and I know toughness is inevitable, but you still  have something at least in a country where you were born, right? Get a degree and some experience outisde and then define your own career back at your home country, that's what my personal thinking looks like.
