umn: No one has begun making admission decisions yet as we are still processing applications. Actual review will begin later in February with the first decisions made probably in late February and throughout March.
Maryland: Applications are currently under review by Faculty reps. The first offers are being made by the beginning of March by the Admissions Committee. If you are in that group, you should receive an email and a letter by the end of March. The applicants receiving the first offers have until April 15 to make a decision, otherwise the offer will be made to the next candidate as decided by the Admissions committee.
Rice: I wanted to update the timeframe during which we originally anticipated we would contact selected candidates to participate in on-campus interviews. The Finance Selection Committee is scheduled to meet early next week and we expect to coordinate visits with selected candidates beginning the week of February 15th.
Rochester: We do not have interviews during our application process. The admissions committee reviews the application that you submitted and makes decisions based on this material. Applicants will be notified of admissions decisions by early March.
No (or, little) correlation between interview and teaching requirement while you are in the program. You are more likely to teach if you are in the phd program in a public school, coz they have so many undergrads. In private schools, it depends. Top schools tend to have no/little teaching requirement (as an instructor), although you may need to do some TA work.
