i got admitted by Rice too, but i have decided to reject the offer. Anyway, i found people in this forum weight the so-call ranking too much-- actually it hardly count anything in job search if only    your program is    between 15th and 50th in business week, in addition, american pay much more focus on the repution of college, so don't forget considering the undergraduate ranking if you really want to get in a prestigeous university. Use excel to calculate the NPV of your different options, you will find it much easier to make    your final    decision ---

just wonder how to use the NPV methode to compare the different offer?

Ericxu007, actually in Rice formal financial requirments the annual expense is around $52,000, which at least we need to prepare for Visa issue. Houston's living expense is not so high, but the key point now is whether we can get strong financial support for US visa.

johnsonwxj, I just reveiw Rice doc again, $52,216 is the exstimate of 1yr expenses you should prepare for financial declaration. Hw, the real cost can be controlled under    $50K/yr easily for Chinese students, as Rice's calculation include quite high transportation and Room and board fees.


Personally, the key point Rice is of interest to me is its program and the job market.    Rice    have esteem reputation in South, especially in Texas. I do think it will help in job hunting if you'd like to stay in Texas. Anyway, if u    want job in other's states things will be different.

got rice admission letter, too.     Definetely will go to rice. My
wife is at Texas medical center and her building is 500 yards from
Jesse jones B-school building.     really love the campus and the
building. if u are a soccer fan or a tennis fan or a basketball fan or
a party animal, come to rice ---- woo, i did not mean that there is
much time to play . :-)
