No problem ma6jia.
Being the oldest b-school outside USA, Ivey has the most extensive alumni network among all Canadian b-schools. Ivey also teaches a purely case-based method throughout its program. My friends from Ivey told me they used the exact same cases that Harvard uses. Ivey is the second largest case publisher behind Harvard and lota business school buy their teaching cases from Ivey. Five or six years ago, I would call Ivey absolutely the best business school in Canada as you can tell by looking at Ivey mba's salary was almost twice as much as Rotman MBA, or Queens'. However, the other business schools are catching up. Lot of quality applicants went with Rotman and Queens. Ivey is working really work to attract quality applicants as it has frequently modified it program: from 2-year to 1-year, from one intake per year to two intakes per year (similar to INSEAD), then back to one intake. By the way, 90% of the executives in the large companies are Ivey alumni. The remaining 10% are UT, Queens, McGill law grads. Anyways, I still believe Ivey is arguably the best b-school in canada. Recommended for applicants who want to be in consulting. Lota grads go to Mac, Bain, BCG.
if you wanna work in Canada after MBA, Ivey is better than most of the USA schools in terms of salary and position.
Rotman is a really really young school. During this recession, several Rotman MBAs I know got laid off, but the Ivey ones were safe. One superior advatange that Rotman has is the location. It also has a pretty nice trading lab. I would recommend this school for those who wanna work on Bay street (the so-called Canadian Wall Street. I am working there right now, but it has a long way to go to catch up with Wall St.) Rotman appointed a new dean who was from HArvard some years ago. This guy's magic really works and has pulled Rotman within striking distance from Ivey that could almost knock Ivey off from the number 1 spot. Graduate salary has been increasing at a very fast way. (from only 50% of Ivey in less than a decade ago just slightly less than Ivey last year.) Other than finance, nothing is too good when compared to Ivey and Queens. My friend was from finance, had 2 intern offers in banks, but looked to get a consulting intern, almost failed until the Rotman dean went out to reach out companies and created 5 unpaid consulting intern positions at a smaller consulting company than MBB, she landed one. Even thought the bank offers were good in terms of money, she was still happy cus she's one step closer to her goal of switching industry. |
