I am not applying, but I am pretty familiar with all those programs as I have many friends who went to these schools such as Ivey, Rotman, Queens and MGill (this is in Quebec.)

Feel free to ask me questions if you have any~~

No problem ma6jia.

Being the oldest b-school outside USA, Ivey has the most extensive alumni network among all Canadian b-schools. Ivey also teaches a purely case-based method throughout its program. My friends from Ivey told me they used the exact same cases that Harvard uses. Ivey is the second largest case publisher behind Harvard and lota business school buy their teaching cases from Ivey. Five or six years ago, I would call Ivey absolutely the best business school in Canada as you can tell by looking at Ivey mba's salary was almost twice as much as Rotman MBA, or Queens'. However, the other business schools are catching up. Lot of quality applicants went with Rotman and Queens. Ivey is working really work to attract quality applicants as it has frequently modified it program: from 2-year to 1-year, from one intake per year to two intakes per year (similar to INSEAD), then back to one intake.  By the way, 90% of the executives in the large companies are Ivey alumni. The remaining 10% are UT, Queens, McGill law grads. Anyways, I still believe Ivey is arguably the best b-school in canada. Recommended for applicants who want to be in consulting. Lota grads go to Mac, Bain, BCG.

if you wanna work in Canada after MBA, Ivey is better than most of the USA schools in terms of salary and position.

Rotman is a really really young school. During this recession, several Rotman MBAs I know got laid off, but the Ivey ones were safe. One superior advatange that Rotman has is the location. It also has a pretty nice trading lab. I would recommend this school for those who wanna work on Bay street (the so-called Canadian Wall Street. I am working there right now, but it has a long way to go to catch up with Wall St.) Rotman appointed a new dean who was from HArvard some years ago. This guy's magic really works and has pulled Rotman within striking distance from Ivey that could almost knock Ivey off from the number 1 spot. Graduate salary has been increasing at a very fast way. (from only 50% of Ivey in less than a decade ago just slightly less than Ivey last year.) Other than finance, nothing is too good when compared to Ivey and Queens. My friend was from finance, had 2 intern offers in banks, but looked to get a consulting intern, almost failed until the Rotman dean went out to reach out companies and created 5 unpaid consulting intern positions at a smaller consulting company than MBB, she landed one. Even thought the bank offers were good in terms of money, she was still happy cus she's one step closer to her goal of switching industry.

queens is pretty good on both, but not the best in either. Goldman Sachs has a tradition of hiring 2 Queens MBA per year to work in new york, neither rotman nor ivey receives this special treatment. (im not sure if they still have this agreement during the crisis though.) same as Ivey, one year MBA program,  Kingston = london = low low living expense which is roughly 1/3 of toronto's cost. the queens mba is young too. it started pretty much like an "engineering" mba as most of the students were engineers. Its student body is much more diversified now. consulting companies like queens more than rotman.

by the way, queens U receives more funding than any other Us in Canada, but its facilities are for sure not among the best. You wonder why? Queens has the highest paid faculty in Canada.

How about if to bring families over to Ivey?

One similar trends in many canadian b-schools is that the schools tend to see applicants with canadian education or work experience way stronger than those with neither.

My rotman friend was in the same company as I. She had only 1 year of very entry-level experience when she applied, 650 gmat, 3.8 gpa in a top canadian school. She received an offer from Schulich with $30,000 scholarship which she turned down in favor of Rotman's who didn't extend any scholarship. She told me that her classmates without canadian experience generally had 8-10 years of W/E. And these students had a very hard time landing summer interns this years which was a really sad thing. Total number of Chinese students (mainland, taiwan, hk) is less than 10. There are a lot of Indians though.

Another friend of mine who had 3 years of Canadian W/E and an Canadian bachelor degree, low GPA, 680 gmat got into Ivey. From what he describes, the Ivey program is much more intense and has less parties than Rotman.
