MS- INFORMATION SYSTEMS, GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCE & STERN SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, NYU
This is an excellent university to pursue the MIS program which is located at downtown New York. Do pay careful attention to this university as most of the applicants avoid it considering its location in one of the most expensive states. Conversely, the program is very impressive and the cost of attending the program also comes out to be quite economical. Due to its location, vast number of part time, internships and full time jobs are available and most of the students do end up with multiple offers at the end of their course. The earnings made from part time jobs and in-house (guaranteed) internships are huge which bring down the expenses. The courses (subjects) offered are very good, management oriented and vast range to choose from. Also, the business school and the university are very highly ranked.
Although, the university mentions 3 years of minimum work experience in its basic requirements, applicants with no work experience have been selected for Fall 2009.
2. CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY
MASTERS IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT (MISM), CMU
Highly ranked university. Well appreciated, very renowned and awesome program. The only negative thing is the extremely high cost of the program. The entire cost of program is whooping 75K$.
3. INDIANA UNIVERSITY
MS-MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS, KELLEY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, IU
Highly professional program with a good mix of courses. The university is very selective in offering admits. The placements are very good. Cost of the program is a little high.
A GRE score of 1400 is required but, those with a little less score can take a chance. The university also conducts video interview for short listed candidates.
4. TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY
MS-MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS, MAYS BUSINESS SCHOOL, TAMU
The university and business school are quite highly ranked and very renowned but there have been problems faced by students from the department and flexibility of courses available is a little less. But a major positive factor is the cost of program. The entire program can be completed in less than 30K$ including all the expenses. Also, huge number of assistantship and aid are offered which would repay half or the entire cost of your studies.
The university mainly focuses on the GRE score for selection. For fall 2009, applicants with GRE above 1300 were offered admission while those above 1370 were also offered assistantships and financial aids.
5. UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI
MS-INFORMATION SYSTEMS
The program offered by this university has evolved to be quite impressive with a good mix of available courses and good location of the university. The placements offered to students are quite good. Due to small capacity of students in a batch, admission is quite competitive and the university is very selective. A GRE score of 1300+ is required for this university.
6. SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY
MS-INFORMATION MANAGEMENT, INFORMATION SCHOOL (iSCHOOL)
A good university with a very good program. The information school at Syracuse university is ranked #1 among a list of top iSCHOOLs. The courses under the information management program are quite impressive and flexible. The placements are also good. But the cost of program is a little high.
An average profile is required for selection at this university. This university considers the mixture of GRE score, TOEFL, academic performance, work experience and course completion or any other certificates.
7. UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, CHICAGO
MS- MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS, LIAUTAUD GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, UIC
The university is located in downtown Chicago. The location of the university is amazing due to which it offers a large number of employment opportunities. The program is very management oriented. The cost of program is around 30K$ but the university offers a large number of funding in the form of scholarships, assistantships, on campus jobs are available in large numbers which reduces the cost drastically.
A GRE score of 1200+ should be sufficient to secure admission at this university.
8. GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY
MS- INFORMATION SYSTEMS, ROBINSON COLLEGE OF BUSINESS, GSU
The university is considered as a good option. The location of the university is good. The program, courses are also good.
9. UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA
MS-MIS, ELLER COLLEGE OF MANAGEMENT, UoA
The college of management is quite highly ranked. The program and flexibility of courses available is very good. But the weightage of the program has dropped recently considering the large number of admits issued to all the applicants. For fall 2009, all the applicants have been able to secure admission at this university. The program holds a huge batch size and large number of desis due to which there will be huge competition in oncampus jobs and placements.
Apart from these, there are many other universities that offer MIS and similar programs. But, almost all the MIS aspirants do secure admits in the listed universities.
P.S.: The programs of these universities may be having different names but basically, it is all MIS.
P.S.: The order of universities, their description and analysis have been made out of personal experience and any comments over it is welcomed which would provide a generalized view to following applicants.
