first ask yourself, why phd? go to see the most recent journal of accounting review. if there is nothing that fascinates you,plz totally forget the idear of getting a phd. 

if you still wannna give a try since you like the research, search for the post of procpa. he made a very awesome conclusion of his application for accounting phd. it will help you. 

about the rankings of schools that you can apply, it is too early to ask. try your best to have a decent gpa and find good rls, next year you will know your aims yourself.

谢谢~我知道~只是我觉得并不是每个人PHD之后都能做faculty的~很多因素影响，不可能不考虑在industry就业的情况。您说是吗？

读5年出来去industry未免违背了初衷吧...个人想法，有点浪费了，对本科或者MS毕业的同龄人，这5年可能已经挣下房子和车的钱，happily married with children了

去PhD，肯定是想做研究想做Faculty才去读吧：）just some thoughts

我觉得大家没必要在楼主到底要不要读phd上面那么纠缠，也不一定说读了phd就一定要作faculty。我不信在论坛里说自己是因为兴趣来读phd的人当面对一年15万以上的工作的时候会选择继续读phd，反过来说很多人正式因为没有很有前途的工作机会才会选择读phd，真没必要上升到一定有兴趣才要读这个高度，结了婚还那么多离的呢，更别说现在有兴趣以后没兴趣了，没有好的工作机会就申请，没兴趣就不读了，骑驴找马，有了好机会还可以quit。

对于楼主的申请，根据你的描述，top20基本没啥机会，主要试试30-50的吧。
