我现在美读MBA. 想在下半年申请明年秋季入学的PHD。所以想请教几个问题。

其实原来的工作我也不是很感兴趣.工作缺乏激情.来读了MBA后,感觉自己对学术方面比较感兴趣.而且觉得做Rearch比较适合自己.

LZ真的对学术有兴趣吗？这个决策可是大决策

phd都不一定能5年毕业 然后不知道什么时候有ap 又不知道什么时候能拿到tenure 每一步都要拼的 lz如果对学术不是真的超级有热情 年龄大了 其他的牵挂多了 有多少精力和毅力来拼这么多年呢。。。

或许lz真的对学术超有热情。。。

关键是审视了我过去的经历和我的长处，我觉的Research比较适合我.更何况自己也不愿继续浪费自己在毫无热情的工作中。

sometimes, research will be more boring than what you expected,  you might not have enough time to do what you like before you get tenured, if you could ever.

大家都是为你好，如果入了门才发现不喜欢，回头就难了，所以是得想清楚再读。lz可以找点机会参加些research project之类，看看自己是不是真的喜欢，真的有能力坚持。或者多读点经典paper。

谁能给我一个概念。估计像我这样，能够申请怎么个学校。我也可以在考虑楼上的建议时，一起考虑进去。好比，如果芝加哥要我，岁数再大一点，也有一些前途。40-50名的学校，可能有也可能没有。100到100开外，这就比较糟糕了，可能即使读出来，也会在就业遇上问题。所以，如果我对自己可能可以申的学校有个概念，我也能更直观的知道自己在这条路上是否有未来。

Since you are in U Iowa, getting into their PhD program would be your best scenario.

Otherwise, unless you have super strong RLs from super strong people, to be frank with you, your chance of getting into top 50 is slim. Check the student profiles of your target schools and  see how your background compares to the current students' (I mean, not the general admission statistics, but click into the website of current students and see their background).
