 大家好,我是新手。上个月考完了托福,成绩还可以吧。觉得Chasedream中的内容很有用,也希望自己作为新手贡献一些。上传我复习中提醒自己注意的一些考试细节。还有185篇作文Ideas我的总结。还有北美校园Campus Vocabulary,也许对大家听力对话部分有点帮助。谢谢。

1.      People attend college or university for many different reasons (for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge).  Why do you think people attend college or university?  Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

1)      Specialized knowledge: major in one field of study (find their real interest),

2)      Useful skills: acquire skills important in society (communication, teamwork, independence, organizational skills)

YES. More free time to pursue other activities.  More free time for women, so that they can study, or advance their careers.  Men can also enjoy cooking without being intimidated by the daunting task of cooking.  The family can have a larger variety of food for meals. ( 每餐可以享用更多的菜品,丰富营养)


4.      It has been said, “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.”  Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books.  In your opinion, which source is more important?  Why?  Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.




5.      A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community.  Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community.  Do you support or oppose the factory?  Explain your position.

支持:more employment by the factory and other businesses related (restaurants, shops), more taxes from these businesses, better infrastructure, education for the local community

反对:air, water, noise pollution, traffic jams, destroy the peaceful life, migrant workers (overcrowding the schools and hospitals)


6.      If you could change one important thing about your hometown, what would you change?

1)      Pollution of water and air: 人生病痛苦、影响生活和工作、花钱、国家的医疗资源和经费的浪费和负担、自然生态系统的破坏、投资者和旅游者减少、经济下滑。

2)      Traffic: 交通堵塞使办事效率降低(投资者减少)、人的心情变差(bad temper)、家庭生活受影响(父母下班在路上很久才到家,回家无法陪孩子)、影响健康(不爱出门,不到户外锻炼身体)、浪费资源(汽油)、污染空气(更多尾气)。


3)      City planning: 北京是中国的六朝古都,有很多著名的历史文化古迹,但在城市改造中被破坏。北京失去了其特有的韵味,不仅对北京人和中国人是遗憾、而且外国人也失望。直接导致的后果:旅游的吸引力下降、国人越来越少直接接触北京/中国历史和文化,而只能在书本中了解。古迹一旦破坏,将永远无法弥补。现代化的建筑也要建,但要注意在保护古建筑的前提下,做好城市规划、可以将城市功能分区。

So why are we obliged to do things we do not enjoy?  Because we are convinced that despite all the difficulties, boredom, tediousness or danger involved in our duties, we are doing them for an important purpose.  Sometimes we do things we do not enjoy doing to fulfill our dreams, for people we care about, or simply for the faith in which we believe. The housewife sacrifices her bed time for the comfort and joy of her family, the student makes use of his leisure time for a better future, the doctor works for people in need, and the soldier risks his life for the lives of millions.

Many things in this world are not pleasant but necessary.  And others do the same for us.

1.       ace: 得到优等成绩

2.       All-nighter: 通宵学习

We had to pull an all-nighter to get ready for the final.


3.       Assistantship: 助教奖学金

4.       Audit: 旁听(to attend a course without credit)

It usually costs as much to audit a course as to take it for credit.
