但是那个TV以前任何一年的和现在的TV不是同一个啊
为什么还可以省略呢？

明白了，但觉得少个代词 that or those，如果加上代词是不是会更好理解呢？

这题要注意代词指代 it 只的是a greater proportion而不是proportion 知道这个就很好做了 they的指代也不对

看到这个突然发现我以前理解的有问题，也不太同意天蝎座1107关于指代的观点。

我认为补全应该是这样：

Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than （soaring television costs accounted for）in any previous election.

画线部分应该可以用they代替。因为a greater proportion 作为同位语，带到句子里写成

costs accounted for a greater proportion in the presidential campaign than in any previous election. 

我认为it和they都是想指代costs。而不是proportion。

代词应该优先指代主句主语的。

求证前辈我说的对吗?

偶不是前辈，说下自己的理解。我还是同意天蝎座mm的指代，如果把句子补充完整应该是这样子：

Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than （the proportion that soaring television costs accounted for）in any previous election.
