Just finished TN-24-17, kinda messed up on SC. Apparently, there are still some weakness in my SC knowledge. Really need to crack SC in the last days.
Would like to post two of my SC incorrect questions because they are kinda uncommon.

Responding to the public’s fascination with-and sometimes
undue alarm over-possible threats from asteroids, a scale
developed by astronomers rates the likelihood that a particular asteroid or comet may collide with Earth.
(D)x
A. a scale developed by astronomers rates the likelihood
that a particular asteroid or comet may
B. a scale that astronomers have developed rates how
likely it is for a particular asteroid or comet to
C. astronomers have developed a scale to rate how likely
a particular asteroid or comet will be to
D. astronomers have developed a scale for rating the
likelihood that a particular asteroid or comet will
E. astronomers have developed a scale that rates the
likelihood of a particular asteroid or comet that may
The only reason I didn't choose (C) is becasuse I thought "will" and "is to" are redundant. So I came up with a really dumb answer (D) 不是的 这个题的C考的是be likely to 即:a particular asteroid or comet will be how likely to

In 1981 children in the United States spent an average
of slightly less than two and a half hours a week doing
household chores; by 1997 they had spent nearly six hours a week.
(C)x
A. chores; by 1997 they had spent nearly six hours
a week they指代不清
B. chores; by 1997 that figure had grown to nearly
six hours a week
spent in 1997
D. chores, compared with a figure of nearly six hours a week in 1997 compare
E. chores, that figure growing to nearly six hours a week in
This is a tricky question. by glimpes, you can easily take out A, B and D, and they you will be struggling between C and D. but both C and D are incorrect
(B) is the answer. I guess if two sentences are separated by semicolon, they should be treated individually, so the past perfect tense is OK in the second sentence.
Anyone has any better idea?
