I grew up in rural North Carolina, had a 2.2 (yikes!) undergraduate GPA, even sold vacuum cleaners door-to-door (surprisingly, even more embarassing than the 2.2 GPA), and though I eventually managed to work for Deloitte Consulting, I was not exactly a slam-dunk applicant at any business school, right? After Reading My Background, It May Be Hard to Believe I have a Stanford MBA. Well, it's true (I have a stack of donation solicitation letters from the alumni association to prove it). I knew I had an interesting story to tell, but I didn't know if it was the "right" story, or if I otherwise had any shot at a top-tier business school. So, you can imagine my excitement when I got the call from Derrick Bolton, director of Stanford MBA Admissions, at 9pm while I was still plugging away at work. I was so excited that I took the rest of the night off So how did I get there, you ask? Well, that's what I hope to tell you over the few days in this email course. (It might grow to more lessons if I think of more cool stuff for you.) I had about a tough a time as imagineable getting into a top school, and I'm going to explain how I did it, and what tools I used to get there. All of it may not be applicable to your situation (I hope your GPA is a bit better 2.2!) but it should be helpful to learn from another perspective. Stay tuned, and let me know if you have any questions, or if I can help out with anything. Also, I'd love to hear from you - especially if you have any comments on how I might make this email course more helpful for you.
