if you are talking about DC, you probably wanna know VA and MD...

I don't know the rules about MD, but I hold a DL of VA...If you got a Chinese DL, it would only help you to waive the 30-day period between the knowledge test and the road test. That means you actually still have to take both tests. The knowledge test is conducted on computer with multiple choices question about traffice rules. And for the road test, you basically need to drive around the DMV, don't have to be very skillful but have to be really careful about all the rules.

The total cost for VA's DL is 11 dollars...
