Hi, Brumesblue

How long did you wait to get offer after you submitted your application? I submitted my application the last day of 2008 and just had my TOEFL score today. How long will I wait for any response in your estimation? Thanks.

Hi Lin58,

here comes the time-frame of admission:

on-line application completed: 25th Nov.

information of materials done from Admissions Office: 5th Dec.

Interview inquiry from Admissions Office: 12th Jan.

Interview with Director of Admission: 14th Jan.

Getting Admitted : 16th Jan.

However, actually I was anxious about my offer for around 15 days as the admission e-mail got lost. I wrote the inquiry mail to Admission office on 1st Feb and was informed my decision instantely. Fianally I received paper admission on 1st Feb as well.

I suggest you to push them by writing or calling them. Wish you good luck!

Hi, Brumesblue

Thank you very much for your quick information. It seems that I may need wait for another month since I just had my TOEFL delivered. When it's convenient for you, please also share some intereview experience. Was it long? And what type of special questions were asked? Thanks again for your great help.

The interview took around 30 minutes in very friendly atmosphere. It began with some normal questions such as "how's weather in Shanghai?", "Did you come to Canada before?" etc. Then Mr. interviewer invited me to ask some questions and explained them very detailed. After that, some professional questions come:

1) Assessing your career progress to date.

2) How do you describe "teamwork"?

3) Which qualities should a leader obtain?

4) How do you spend your casual time?

5) Why Schulich attracks you?

To my opinion, the interview of Schulich is somewhat easier than that of Rotman. Perhaps because I was within the relative "secure" line after interviewed by Rotman, which makes me easy.

Thanks again. I'll see how I go with Schulich. I really like its flexibility in curriculum. Best luck to your final decision.

A diff of CAD 20k or 30k shouldn't be a concern.

My background is not in Finance and I have no intention to transfer to Finance after MBA, for two reasons:

1.I doubt if I can be one of the Senior Manager at a well-known financial institution even if I took all the courses in Finance during the MBA program.

2. I do not like math and have no talent in this aspect.

So my future plan is to concentrate in General Management - Strategic Management area of the MBA program. In this case, should I still wait for the offer from Rotman? I checked the information online for both schools, Rotman offers fewer courses in Strategic Management compared to Schulich's.

Any Niu Ren can offer their advice?

Thanks!

I'm not a Niu Ren, but here's my two cents:

1) If I read your messages correctly, you only have the Schulich offer on hand, but not Rotman's, right?  Are you absolutely confident that you'll get it?

2) Other than the things you and others have been discussing, may I point out that you also need to consider the location of the two schools?  Since you're doing part-time, so you need to commute a lot.  Pick a school which is closer to your home and save a ton of time in few years.  Time = Money

3) I would recommend you get in touch with alumni from both part-time programs.  They are the best source of information.  I can only imagine how different it can be between the part-time and full-time programs of the same school.

4) I feel that you've pretty much made up your mind about attending Schulich   If you like it, then go for it!  Not every HBS graduates turn out to be successful and/or smart (eg. George W Bush), so either going to Schulich or Rotman is not going to single-handedly determine your future.  Somethings you'll just have to flip a coin   Good luck!
