我个人认为prep答案错了。

文章最后一段先讲的是光靠个案分析是不能够研究关于小公司的。然后讲的另一个在数量上关于定义小公司的困难。
The passage suggests which of the following about the empirical study of small firms' role?

(A) Anecdotal evidence does not support the theory that small firms' role is significant.
正确， 个案分析是不充足来分析小公司的
(B) Degrees of market turbulence are the primary indicator of small firms' role.
答案靠前了
(C) An examination of new niches created by small firms has provided important data for the analysis of such firms' role.
同上
(D) Case studies have provided reliable evidence to answer major questions concerning small firms' role.

更精确的对与小公司的定义和研究小公司是没有关系的。而且即便是有关系，conclusive 这个程度词在文章中是找不到的。conclusive指的是可以得出结论的，文章中没有说得出了小公司的员工数量就可以完全足够地研究小公司！

原文...suchevidence has proved inadequate to answer major questions concerning the role ofsmall firms...我觉得原文的意思仅仅是说证据不充分，不足以回答这个小企业到底是什么角色的问题
并没有说是“不支持”的意思。
所以A不对。
举个例子，比如
前提1：柴油机扭矩大
前提2: 发动机扭矩对车辆越野性能是关键指标。
结论：装有柴油发动机的SUV越野性能好。
如果只有前提1，没有前提2的存在。我们认为前提1是inadequate to conclude that off-road performance of SUV equipped with diesel engine is excellent.
但不能说前提1 don't support the conclusion.

干扰项：(A) Anecdotal evidence does not support the theory that small firms' role is significant.
文中：轶事证据“不足以”回答（根据上文，是支持的）关于小企业角色的问题
不是“不支持”小企业的角色重要 这一观点 这里有一个英语表达理解方式的微小差异 ：“不” 和 “没有”
有道句库里 evidence does not support 大多倾向“不支持"，即 否定 的意思 远离“没有支持”即 不相关 的意思
例句一：Real-world evidence does not support the Keynesianism perspective
正确项(E) A more precise definition of the term "small firm" is crucial to making a conclusive analysis about small firms' role
不选原因：以为定义问题不在”实证empirical学习”范畴
注意 小安阅读法教会我看出文章的结构 是从  however  开始的evidence，到后面在literature里出现的 alternative view都已经在“实证研究”大类里了。不应该将An additional difficulty单独拿出来做另一角度的漏洞，太单薄突兀
标准模糊的问题 归到empirical里面也解释通
最后一段的意思是 实证知识（empirical knowledge）里，evidence支持力度不够，而且标准不清
