“All groups and organizations should function as teams in which everyone makes decisions and shares responsibilities and duties. Giving one person central authority and responsibility for a project or task is not an effective way to get work done.”

Undoubtedly, team work is an excellent way for business or any organization to achieve high efficiency and as the team member, every one is obligated to shoulder responsibility and make positive contributions. However, it does not mean that any one have right to make final decision, especially when such decision will bring the whole team serious change or consequence. On the contrary, a leader, who gives the last word to his /her team and takes the most significant responsibility, is always desired. I arrived at this conclusion for several reasons.

 

To begin with, it is highly difficult and complicated to satisfy everyone’s want. Everyone has his/her own opinion on certain issue according to their own self-interest; therefore, coordinating all people’s needs and making the agreement is a process which wastes much energy and time. Besides its high consuming, conflicts between different parties are easily to invade, thereby lowering the morale of the whole team. Since people are distracted by such negative influence that the inefficient working performance can be foreseen.

 

Secondly, efficiency is generated based on two aspects, subdivision and combination. Most people have advantages of working in certain field, with the experience and adequate knowledge, doing what they are good at is time-saving. However, it is far from being enough. Perfect performers need to be organized, which is the reason why there must be some management group in business and organization. These people are the very persons who set up the blueprint, coordinate all functions, and make the final decisions. If only all the people are arranged at proper position, making full use of their skills, either as a common performer or as the decisions-maker, we could expect that the business enterprises or the organizations would benefit from reasonable combination, gaining efficiency in the largest degree.

 

However, some exceptions are existed in some professional areas. For instance, when a surgery encounter an emergent case, say the patient is dying, then the surgery has no need to report to the chef and wait for the instruction. What his/her responsibility is try best to saving lives, so surgeries can make their final choice to operate, to using drug or giving up the therapy.

 

In conclusion, although there are some exceptions, under most circumstances, working as a team while following the leader’s instructions is necessary for all entities to run smoothly and ensure their efficiency.
