I have seen many students changed their idea once they are in the US.  When they first arrive, they just want to learn something.  However, after a while, when they get to know the living standards here for AVERAGE Americans, they truly want to stay.  The the question, you got it, now became "How?"

When economy is good, a lot of students can stay by finding a job.  However, when the economy goes south, many people have to find other ways to stay.  Forget about your noble ideal, because you will become a typical student once you are here.  So please talk no more about "I just come to the US for an enriched personal experience."

来这里的人，都是做好了自费，至少是半自费出国的打算吧？既然这样，收起你那套“有那么多钱干什么不行”的论调吧。没人强迫你出国。我觉得钱花在出国上值，你要觉得不值，当然可以干别的了。那你还来这里混什么呢？

还有，我在美国有已经移民过去的叔叔，所以对于美国的物质条件什么的，他都给我唠叨了一百遍了，也就是环境好点，人少点，我心里大概有谱。但是我要说一句，不管在哪里，只要你有钱，都会过的很舒服，这是硬道理。而且你也说了，高水准的生活是对“average American”而言的，我们这些人过去了，只能算是第一代移民，至少得等到我们的下一代，才能真正融入美国社会，还不一定是主流社会。反之，同等条件下，中国让你可以舒舒服服花钱的地方更多，你没发现罢了。

至于那些瞧不起名校的，认为一切都看起薪的人，我只能说你们没有亲身体会到名校丰富的资源和文化气息的浓厚，我很为你们感到遗憾。我北大的同学之所以都出国了，不只是因为人牛，也因为北大的机会非常非常多，还有那种氛围。也许一清华哈佛的学生和你起薪一样，但是，你们所在岗位的层次不一样；你们的晋升机会不一样；你们的人脉网不一样。你说他们的可能还不如你，只有一种可能：你是拼死拼活工作了好几年的，还必须特别优秀的，然后拿你的经历和工资水平和一清华哈佛刚出校门的本科生比。至少我见到的北大学生都很努力很优秀，为人也很谦和，不知道你有什么自信说人家不如你。

对很多家庭条件一般的学生确实如此，但对于那些大款，他们真的是没动力去挖空心思留在美国
