Tippie School of UI Taking Questions

I am current student of MBA class 2010 of Tippie School of Business. I
knew that in China, there is not much information about Tippie.
Therefore, I would be glad to help answer any questions about Tippie
and University of Iowa. If I don't know the answer, I will try to find the 2nd year students or admission office for help

Also, I will address the current status
I feel about Tippie in the next few floors.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. PM or on board messages are both welcomed.

Hello,

How important is work experiene in Tippie's admission process? Has the school recently accepted anyone who is straight out of his or her undergraduate program? What are their profilies like (GPA, GMAT score, internship, etc)?

Thanks a lot!

Hi!

From my perspective, working experience is very important no matter which school you would like to apply. For a prospective MBA student, working experience is required and plays an important role when admission officer evaluate its candidates. So I strongly recommended that you have at least one-two year working experience. In my impression, most of 1st-year students have working experience except some Dual Degree students.

Tippie is a small MBA program with high quality of students. It's small! The program only has 60-70 students per year. However, it is its "small" that everyone could fully make use of its resource such as career service, writing center, and leadership development series.  In addition, it is highly diversified. In the 1st-year students, we have students from China, India, Peru, Romania, Germany, Brazil, Taiwan, Uganda, Ecuador, and US students which come form west coast and south coast.

The average GMAT: 652 GPA: 3.34. But I think even your score does not achieve the average. You could still give it a shot. The admission office is strictly to pick the students. But if you are qualified, they will gernerously give you admission.

Another thing I have to mention here. If your GMAT score is high enough (700+), the school probably could provide graduate assistantship to you. This includes scholorship,10 hour job per week with pay, and to enjoy in-state resident tuition. That is, you will not have to worry about the tuition cost! It will be a good choice for those who would like to study abroad but their budget is limited.

I will ask for the admission office to make sure the intern rate and if any students attend program without the working experience and reply later. Hope this helps!

Hi!

I have checked with the director of admission office. Here is what you want.

The average year's of work experience prior to entering the program is approximately 3.5 years. You can find this information at http://www.biz.uiowa.edu/fulltimemba/admissions/profiles_2010.asp

We had 100% internship placement last year.  Placement stats can be found at http://www.biz.uiowa.edu/mbacareers/statistics.cfm.

If you have any further question, please feel free to ask me.

Can you please introduce the placement for Chinese students who came from mainland? What is the percentage of staying in US vs. going back to China? And what are industries and job functions mostly? Thanks.

We don’t separate the placement numbers out by country.  I can tell you
though that 100% of our international students were placed last year and all of
them ended up staying in the US.   Almost none of our international
students go back to their home country.  That being said, the economic
environment will have an impact on placement and it will probably hit
international students the hardest, but it’s impossible to predict what the
situation will look like in three years when these prospects are looking for a
job.  I’m sure things will be completely different than they are now.
