E 的还有一个问题是 accommodating 同 covered 不平行. hope that helps

选E的话and连接的covered 和accommodating就不平行了，D选项covered 和accommodated 是一个平行结构。

此外，a third of them domesticated and performing various essential tasks. 这句话是elephants的同位语结构，补充说明是elephants的三分之一被驯服和performing各种任务。如果您选E的话，with补充的就是指forest被驯服和performing各种任务，forest是不可以做这些动作的，所以不符合逻辑意思。

因此，正确答案是D。
